The Rev. Megan E.

Stewart-Sicking
Next Rector of Immanuel Church

The Rev. Megan E. Stewart-Sicking comes to us from the Diocese of Virginia

where she currently serves as Associate Rector at the Church of the Good
Shepherd in Burke. She grew up in Cincinnati and attended Xavier University
where she studied Theology and also met her future husband, Joseph, who was
a Math and Physics major. Megan and Joe married in 1997 and moved to
Alexandria for her to attend the Virginia Theological Seminary in 2000. During
that time Joe completed his doctorate in Counseling and also pursued advanced
theological study.

While in seminary, Megan specialized in adult spiritual formation

and contemplative prayer practices, working for three years with
then Canon Eugene Sutton at the National Cathedral. She was
ordained to the priesthood on June 21, 2003 and spent some time as
Assistant Rector at Trinity Church in Columbus, Ohio before
returning to Virginia for her current call. At the time, Joe was
working with author Diana Butler Bass on a grant funded by the
Lilly foundation studying vital mainline congregations across the
country. Joe is now Assistant Professor of Pastoral Counseling and
Spiritual Care at Loyola University Maryland, working with Masters
and Doctoral students at the Columbia Campus. He also does
research for the National Church on clergy health and wellness and Sam’s third birthday, Feb 2009
career development. Joe was ordained to the priesthood in
June 2008 and plans to remain in academia. Megan continues to develop her skills in parish ministry
and her passion for spiritual formation in a variety of settings, including serving on several teams and
projects nationally.

Sam was born on February 24, 2006; he arrived an entire month early and
hasn’t stopped moving since. He is exceptionally strong and fast,
infinitely curious, and very funny. His favorite foods are PBJ and
Chipotle, and he enjoys running, playgrounds, hide and seek, dancing, and
cartoons. He is also especially fond of organ music, both traditional
hymns and child favorites.

At the zoo, annual summer trip Megan loves dark chocolate, reading,
to Cincinnati 2009 walking/hiking, and television dramas.
The entire family enjoys NFL and college
football, Xavier basketball, and can do
without baseball.

Megan will spend time getting to know the parishioners of Immanuel

and doing some discernment with our many ministries over her first
months here. She, Joe, and Sam are very excited about moving into
the rectory sometime in December. Megan looks forward establishing
a Facebook
Fan Page for Immanuel Church and you may currently follow her on Twitter.
Halloween 2009 (He looks
good in purple too!)
