The advertisements sub-genre is fantasy romance, as the film consists of vampires

and werewolves. The presentation of the advert shows codes and conventions

through the title and the eeriness of the image of special effects to indicate the

narrative. It consists of rhetorical devices; editorial rhetoric shows the merging of a

characters face within the background. Also the use of the moon behind the

characters symbolises the actual title of the film, the composition and meaning of the

moon demonstrates presentation and photographical rhetoric. The use of large fonts

draws you into the advert, which is also presentational and verbal devices. The two

characters in the centre symbolises a closeness of friendship or lovers, as a hug is

symbolic of love; also representing protection. The embrace being central to the

advert shows photographic rhetoric of composition, and suggests that they are the

focus of the film. The character in the background also demonstrates photographical

rhetoric; the composition of them looking over the other two characters indicates

some sort of triangle.

Article from: 'The Daily Mail', about a mother who escaped a prison sentence after

leaving four children under the age of five alone for three hours whilst she went on a

drinking binge. It is a feature article, containing a human interest story. The article

uses several conventions typical for this type of media text, such as the use of

quotation. It uses quotes from several people in order to give the audience a

complete picture. The articles purpose is to inform the audience what happened and

to evoke some sort of response out of them. The language used suggests that this

response is outrage at the woman's actions and how she is not facing a custodial

sentence. This is not done through the journalists own words but through quotes and

paraphrasing of others words.

Beyonce Knowles’ song Broken hearted girl is a pop song with the sub-genre of a

love song. Within this genre and song it consists of a slow melody from beginning to

end, a convention that appears in every love song. With high rifts and emotional

lyrics this is a song that follows many elements of a ‘typical’ love song. The lyrics

demonstrate language rhetoric as they create a narrative of a women being hurt by a

man but can’t help loving him, a narrative that is also common within a love song,

expressing love and the opposite sex always been sang about. The way in which the

chorus in particular is sung is almost like a cry of emotions expressing the feelings of

the artist.
