Production Procedure of Cellulose Acetate
*Cellulose is derived from wood pulp or linters of cotton. +his is not ,--. pure cellulose.
%nstead, it is 6*7. concentrated cellulose in water.
*%n displacement and acet#lation phase, firstl# water or impure acetic "ase used to ma&e
cellulose suspension is replaced with ,--. of pure acetic acid. +his process is done with
/displacement filter0.
*+hen the suspension is sent to 1cet#lation &neader where acet#lation ta&es place and
dou$h acetic s#rup is produced. +his s#rup is mi2ed with certain amount of water to
avoid e2cessive anh#dride and introduce certain amoun of water for ne2t sta$e of
process.
*+his sou$h mi2ture is then sent for h#drol#sis. 1fter end of h#drol#sis, we $et Cellulose
acetate with acetic acid content around 34*33 percent.
*+he s#rup is then precipitated as acid*resin fla&es.
*+he acid*resin fla&es suspension is then sent into ripenin$ rotar# drum
*5rom ripenin$ rotar# drum, it is fed into washin$ rotar# filter where it is filtered . +he
washin$ rotar# filter is fed with water and delivers diluted acid.
*6pinnin$ solution is then e2truded throu$h conve#er "elts into a column of warm air
and thus solvent is recovered.
*'ecovered solvent (7r# cellulose acetate filaments are then stretched onto cones and
"o""ins.
