EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
Extensive experience in research and product development at both the architecture and
executive management levels, in both small and large companies. Solid technical experience in
the data management and analytics areas including: Big Data, Cloud (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS),
Database, Data Warehouse, NoSQL, Unstructured data, and Analytics/Data Mining areas.
Proven track record for ability to successfully lead teams and deliver on large-scale projects:

SIGNIFICANT ACHIEVEMENTS:
Currently, CTO Big Data Insights building a platform that includes different data sources of
different data types and being able either to query the platform or to perform analytics/data-
mining in real-time for better outcome.
Novel Data Platform model integrating structured and unstructured data using one API.
Led, set the vision, architecture, roadmap, and delivered products. Managed medium to
large size teams (including distributed teams outside the US) in Actian, HP, Oracle, etc.
Extensive experience in Big Data (integrated structured and unstructured data in real-
time), Cloud Services (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS) including security aspects, and experience in
Hadoop, NoSQL, and Analytics over structured and unstructured data.
Enhanced Yahoo!s private cloud network Infrastructure authentication model to be
zone-based instead of host-based security model. Adopted Shark/Berkeley (clustered
memory for In-memory processing) in scaling Yahoo! personalization service.
Architected and built fastest Hadoop connector relative to vendors published numbers
between Hadoop and a data warehouse.
Designed/implemented/delivered the modern Oracle buffer cache in Oracle 7.3. Inventor
of the LLRU algorithm to scale buffer cache under SMP and todays multi-core
architectures. Received an award and a promotion for this contribution.
Introduced the notion of Intelligent Storage at HP by moving SQL relevant operators to
execute inside the SAN storage engine; resulted in collaboration between HP and
Oracle (Exadata-1).
Led the team delivering the Cray Research T3D NUMA distributed computing platform.
Developed the notion Logical Global Shared Memory (clustered memory) based on MPI
and MPIs collective operations; it provided excellent scalability and ease of programming.
Adjunct Professor teaching graduate Computer Science courses at Santa Clara University.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:
Big Data Insights To present
Chief Technology Officer
Building a platform including different data sources of different data types and being able
either to query or perform analytics/data-mining in real-time for better outcome.
Mining/Analytics on data generated from sensors such as in oil industry as well as in
Wearables and feedback decisions/predictions in real-time.

Yahoo! Corporation, Sunnyvale 2013

Fellow and VP, Platforms
Working in the Personalization service adopting in-memory distributed cache processing
(Shark/Spark / Berkeley) in conjunction with Hadoop to enhance response time.
Enhancing Yahoo!s private cloud network infrastructure authentication model to be
zone-based instead of host-based (IP-based) security model.
Member of the senior Technology Council at Yahoo! overseeing the technical direction
company-wide including recommendation and personalization engines.

Actian Corporation, Redwood City, CA 2012 2013
CTO and Sr. VP Engineering
Led the Engineering organization (~230 developers) world-wide including UK, Germany,
Amsterdam, NY, and Redwood City.
Redirected the company direction to focus on Analytics and Big Data. Initiated UDF
Framework project allowing developers to develop UDFs once, but it can be deployed
either in Hadoop/Hive for shallow analytics or in Vectorwise (DW) for deep analytics.
Led the design and implementation of the Hadoop Connector to Vectorwise and
delivered the fastest Hadoop Connectors throughput to an RDBMS engine against all
published numbers.

Hewlett-Packard, Cupertino - CA 2002 - 2012
HP Fellow, Chief technologist, Cloud Division
HP Fellow, Business Intelligence Division, Cupertino - CA
During my tenure in HP, I had few promotions including promotion to a Fellow (50
Fellows out of 250,000 employees worldwide).
Influenced the technology direction at HP and the industry such as inventing Intelligent
Storage, Uniform UDF Framework between structured and unstructured data,
leveraging SSD for SQL overflow, solving the N
2
IPC connections for MPP SQL query
plans, and explored processing encrypted data to handle public cloud security.

Velosel, Mountain View, CA 2000 - 2001
Sr. Vice President Engineering and CTO
Led and set the technical direction for the engineering organization (~100 developers).
Architected and delivered a B2B Electronic Commerce XML centric platform (eCM) to
streamline buyer and supplier relationship, including distributors and e-marketplaces
such as Ariba and CommerceOne, with focus on the supplier side.
Heavy interactions with customers. Platform used Weblogic clustering and supported multiple
XML document types for different marketplacess DTD. Velosel was acquired by TIBCO.

Manage.Com, San Jose, CA 1999 - 2000
Vice President Engineering and CTO
Led and set the technical direction for the engineering organization (~120 developers).
Delivered the e.Business product (Frontline e.M Server - December, 1999).
Frontline e.M Server was awarded 1999 Product of the Year by Network Magazine issue
of May 2000. The product provided online URL sampling, Traceroute, and Webcrawler. Set
the strategy for hosted management solution to meet ASP needs.
