1.0 INTRODUCTION

1.1 Background of study and literature view
Lately, the internet has become a leading performance ever achieved by mankind. It has
become an important tool in the lives of individuals, especially to those who exploit it as it

Internet devices . Mobile phones, datacards, handheld game consoles , laptop and cellular
routers allow users to connect to the Internet wirelessly.What is internet? According to the
public worldwide computer network system. Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia . updated 29

that internet is a network of networks that consists of millions of private, public, academic,
business, and government networks, of local to global scope, that are linked by a broad array
of electronic, wireless and optical networking technologies and it carries an extensive range
of information resources and services, such as the inter-linked hypertext documents of the
World Wide Web (WWW) and the infrastructure to support email.

Then through in few years precisely in mid-1990s the internet has had a drastic impact on
culture and commerce, including the rise of near-instant communication by electronic mail,
instant messaging, two-way interactive video calls, and the World Wide Web with its
discussion forums, blogs, social networking, and online shopping sites. Since then, human
beings can not avoid the fact that the internet has become an important tool in everyday life

Even though that the internet gives great benefit to people , there are still some people who
misuses the internet.What is the meaning of misuses of the internet? There are a lot of
definition of misuses of internet.According to Misuses of Internet.Wikipedia. Retrieve 2012-
02-08,from http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_are_the_misuses_of_Internet define that
misuses of internet is the social networking harassment plagiarism/ copyright inappropriate
uses of internet.The example misuse of internet are such as downloading music that you
didn't pay for, copying copyrighted pictures, hacking into emails,harassment fraud and etc...

There should be an appropriate and moderate use of internet in which a balance is
maintained between use and misuse.Through our research on the uses and misuses of internet
among KMM students,we will be able to identify whether do KMM students misuses the
internet or not.

1.2 Statement of problem
Internet are widely used by students in KMM but it is not clear whether they used it for a
good purpose or just misuse it. For an instance, some of student may misuse the internet such
as downloading pornographic material or uploading some illegal material to their friends. It is
crucial to know the solution of the problems because this issues can decide whether KMM
students free from the misuse of the internet or not.Do KMM students realise or aware about
the uses and misuses of the internet ? Do they know what the mainly purpose of the internet ?
do they alert about the misuses of the internet among KMM students ? Do they extent the
internet misuses among them ?

Hypothesis
From our initial observation and investigation, the researchers hypothesized that KMM
students knew about the uses and misuses of the internet because it probably has been taught
in schools.However, the researchers hypothesized that KMM students are mostly realise and
aware about the uses and misuses of the internet.They know briefly about the purpose of the
internet based on their own opinions.Unfortunately,most of KMM students misuses the
internet for their own benefits.Thus,it prove that in KMM,there are many extent of internet
misuse among KMM students.

1.3 Objective of study
i) To know what KMM students use the internet for
ii) To identify the misuses of the internet by KMM students
iii) To investigate the extent of internet misuse among KMM students

Research questions
i) What do KMM students use the internet for ?
ii) How do KMM students misuse the internet ?
iii) What is the extent of the internet misuse by KMM student ?

1.4 Scope and limitation of study
This research is all about the issue in KMM and was conducted in KMM.Thus, the results is
only in KMM and can not be generalized in other places.There is also a small group of
samples participated in this research due to lack of time and finance.Therefore, the result may
not completely accurate as we wanted.

2.0 METHODOLOGY

2.1 Research Design
Firstly, we discuss in group and choose a topic to be researched. Then we decided the
hypothesis as the guideline on completing this project. We divided work to each group
members to their part in project. Next, we prepared the questionnaire and distributed to
the respondents. After that, we collect the questionnaire, record the result, analyze the
data in form of graph. According to the results, we make a conclusion. Then, we submit
the project documents. Lastly, we present the findings.

2.2 Research Instument
The method that we use in this report is by questionnaire. We had prepared 50
questionnaires to be distributed to Malacca Matriculation College students. We decided
to choose questionnaire because it is easier for student to answer our questions in order
to achieve our objective. They also do not given the limit time to answer the question, so
we can get the correct answer without cheated by the respondent. The questionnaire is
not included the name because certain students want their answer to be private. They do
not want other people to know their answer because it might be embarrassing them. This
method is easier compared to other method such as observations.Lastly, we serve internet
to get the information of the uses and misuses of the internet

2.3 Research Respondents
From the research which being done, we distributed 50 questionnaire to different
students with different course. From 50 students who answer the questionnaire, 25 of
them are male students, while the remaining 25 is the female students. The proportion of
life science students is higher than the physical science and account students. We only
distributed the questionnaire to the matriculation students and no lecturer and college
staffs are involve in this research.

2.0 DATA ANALYSIS

Q1: Do you always use the internet in your daily life?

The pie chart shows that only 8% of male respondents that are seldomly use internet in their
daily life and the rest are using the internet frequently in their daily life. The next pie chart
shows that 88% of female respondents are using internet frequently in their daily life and
another 12% shows that some of respondents are using internet seldomly in their daily life.
Based on our research,the results of the frequency of the internet use among male and female
respondents are does not have many difference and they totally know what is internet briefly.

Q2: What do you usually use the internet for?

The pie chart shows that the purpose of using internet by respondents. According to our
research,the highest percentage of the purpose of using internet is belongs to
blogging,Twitting and Facebooking while the lowest percentage of the purpose of internet are
for online transaction. The respondent are know how to use the internet for a beneficial
purpose.

Q3: Have you aver misused the internet?




By refering to the bar chart diagram above, it shows that the number of KMM students who
misused the internet.From the data, the male students about 56% that have misused the
internet which 16% more than female students that only 40%.This also indicates that the
number of male students who misused the internet are 6% more than that who does not
misused the internet.In addition, female students are only 60% that did not misuse on the
internet which 20% more than misuse the internet.From the bar chart, the researchers could
conclude that the number of KMM student that misuse the internet are higher than that who
does not misuse the internet that widely found among the male KMM students rather than
female.

Refer to the stimuli above, it shows that the types of misuses of the internet among the
KMM students.From the male students pie chart, about 40% of students are illegaly accessing
of information which is 36% more than misuses on spreading virus about 4% only.While on
the female pie chart, about 36% are more toward on spreading false information which is
about 32% more than both spreading virus and uploading bad/ improper material.The male
students have about 28% lesser than female students on spreading false
information.Therefore male majority are higher in misuse the internet.
Q5: Who/What the major influenced you to misuse the internet?

From the graph,majority of the respondents who said friends are mainly influence them to
misuse the internet is 38% where percentage of male respondents is 18% and female
respondents is 20%.The almost least factors that influence them to misuse the internet is
family members which has lowest percentage,4%.This means that the major factor that
influence KMM students to misuse the internet is friends.

After the research done,the results was tabulated in the form of bar chart,pie chart and many
more.From the graph above,the highest percentage who said lack moral values is the main
negative effectof misuse of internet on KMM students is 33% more than the other options.For
female,the significant is on the waste precious time.Most of the female respondents said that
the negative effect of misuse of internet is waste precious time while for male respondents
choose the lack moral values is the main negative effect of misuse of internet.The least value
for both respondents chosen are on the involved in cyber crimes which is only 13%.hence the
main negative effect of misuse of internet is the lack of moral values.
Q7: Do you think that KMM students largely misuse the internet?

The graph shows the opinion of respondents about the largely misuse of the internet. It was
indicates major of KMM students did not misuse the internet. The percentage of respondents
did not misuse the internet was 20% higher compared to respondents misused the internet.
The percentage of respondents who misused the internet was 40% while the respondents did
not misuse the internet was 60%. In conclusion, the researchers found that most of the
respondents does not misuse the internet

Q8: Will the misuse of the internet affect the country?



The pie chart shows the opinions of the respondents on the affect of misused of the internet
to the country. It was indicated that most of respondents agreed the misused of the internet
would affect the country. From the chart, 90% of the KMM students agreed that misuse of the
internet will affect the country. Meanwhile, 10% of them disagreed that misuse of the
internet will affect the country. Thus, it shown that there was a big different on the
percentage of the respondents who agreed and disagree that misused of the internet would
affect the country. Therefore, the researchers can conclude that most of the respondents
agreed that the misused of the internet will effect the country.



4.0 CONCLUSION
4.1 Conclusion
Refer to the hypothesis stated in 1.3, the reseachers concluded that our hypotesis are proven.
This is because most of respondents are choose to misuse the internet rather than using it for
the purpose. This can be prove based on our analysis about the uses and misuses the internet.
Obviusly, questionnaire number 2 and 4 are related to our statement of problems. Based on
the analysis for questionnaire number 2, the highest percentage of the purpose of the internet
is the purpose of using internet are for blogging,Twitting and Facebooking.
4.2 Recommendation
Students must be made aware of the meaning of misuse of the internet.Student should
know of the sanctions tthey will face if they are guilty of misusing of the internet.
Futhermore, the faculty should give a lesson repeatly throughout the curriculum
The world authority should increase security level throughout the internet so that the
misuses of the internet especially among students are controlled.
