measuredtheirfirstbaselinegreenhousegasemissions(GHG)inventoryforthe2007calendaryear.Thisyeartheymeasured
anewbaselineinventoryfortheir2013fiscalyearduetosignificantoperationalchanges.Theyrecorded473.65tCO2efor
theirnewbaseline.MillsOfficeProductivityisClimateSmartcertifiedfor2014.
AsaClimateSmartBusinessmember,MillsOfficeProductivityconducteditsGHGemissionsinventoryaccordingtothe
GreenhouseGasProtocolCorporateAccountingandReportingStandard,RevisedEdition(theGHGProtocol).TheGHG
ProtocolisaninternationallyrecognizedstandardpublishedbytheWorldResourcesInstituteandtheWorldBusinessCouncil

OrganizationalBoundaries
MillsOfficeProductivityusedtheoperationalcontrolapproachtodetermineitsorganizationboundaryandincludedinits
inventoryalloperationsoverwhichithasoperationalcontrol.

InventoryBoundaries
TheControlapproachwasusedtodeterminetheorganizationalboundaryfortheinventory.Inthisapproach,allofthe
businessentitiesthatthecompanyhaddirectcontroloveraretobeincludedinthegreenhousegasinventory.
IntheGreenhouseGasProtocol,organizationshavetoselecttheoperationalboundariesaroundtheactivitiestheywill
includeintheirinventory.TheProtocolrequirestheinclusionofScope1and2emissions,andsuggestsincludingScope3
emissionsfromactivitiesrelevanttoanorganizationsbusinessandgoals,andforwhichreliabledatacanbeobtained.
Emissionsscopesaredefinedasfollows:
Scope1:includesdirectGHGemissionsfromsourcesthatareownedorcontrolledbythereportingcompanyororganization
Forscope1,naturalgascombustedforheat,fuelconsumedforbusinesstrips,fuelconsumedforshippingwereincluded.
Scope2:includesindirectGHGemissionsfrompurchasedelectricityandpurchasedheat
Forscope2,electricityconsumptionsbilledbyBChydrowereincluded.
Scope3:includesindirectGHGemissionsthatareconsequencesofthereportingcompanysoperationsbutoccuratsources
ownedbyanothercompany
Forscope3,unmetered/unbilledelectricity,staffcommuting,garbageandpaperconsumptionwereincluded.

tool.TheClimateSmartGHGmanagementtoolwasdesignedforadherencetotheGHGProtocol.

EnvironmentalProtectionAgency,theUSDepartmentofEnergy,theIntergovernmentalPanelonClimateChangeandNatural
ResourcesCanada.ClimateSmartreviewsitsemissionfactorsannuallytoupdatethembasedonrefinedindustry

Analysis
The2013fiscalyearinventoryisthesecondinventoryconductedbyMillsOffice.TheymeasuredtheirfirstGHGinventorywith
ClimateSmartforthe2007calendaryear.Sincethen,Millshasexpandedsignificantly.Therefore,the2007inventoryisno
longerausefulbaselineforyeartoyearcomparisongoingforward.The2013fiscalyearisnowthenewbaseline.

Conclusion
TheemissionsinventoryforMillsOfficeProductivityisconsistentwiththeinternationallyrecognizedGHGprotocolfollowed
byClimateSmart.MillsOfficeProductivitymeasuredtheiremissionsforthe2013fiscalyearandrecordedafinalized
inventoryof473.65tCO2e.Thereductionstrategiesaddressawiderangeofactivities.Thisgreenhousegasinventoryand
accompanyingreductionplanwerecompiledusingthebestpracticesincarbonaccounting,anddemonstratethecontinued
commitmentthatMillsOfficeProductivityhastoenvironmentalstewardshipandcorporatesocialresponsibility.
