My ecological footprint:

Beginning
of unit (per
person)
Strategies for reduction
Acres/hectar
es
6.3 global
hectares

Planets 3.5
Breakdown:
Food 31% - I will reduce food wastage by
minimising groceries by
buying food that is needed.
- My grandma allowed me to
use her garden for fresh
produce as she has various
fruits and vegetables that she
rarely uses
- I will reduce meat produce
that we use and replace with
vegetables and fresh
produce.
- Create a meal planner
- Create a list of what needs to
be used by a certain date
- Use left overs

Potential challenges that
may occur:
- May buy more food as my
brothers live out of home and
they come home for dinner
occasionally.
- Growing fruit and vegetables
are seasonal, so right now in
the present moment some of
the fruit and vegetable may
not be in season to grow
- My family have different
needs as my mum and dad
eat a lot of meat and it will
take a lot of convincing to
reduce this.

Shelter 30% - Reducing water
- Reducing electricity and gas
(more information further
below)

-Living at least 7km from the
town area can be difficult to
walk as I have an injury.
-Time management can also
be an issue when travelling

Goods 14% -Reduce buying items that I dont
need.
Potential challenges that may
occur:

-Completing this assignment online
- Use Ipad to jot down notes
Plastic 11.67L -Use own reusable bag when
shopping, deny plastic bags from
shops
- Use reusable things rather than
plastic eg drink bottles, coffee cups.
-Opt for food products that have
limited packaging eg fruit produce.

Metal 3.3L
Organic (food) 20L -Shop wise and calculate how much
food I will actually need rather than
wasting it.
-Use the freezer to store items for
longer
-My grandma has various vegetable
and fruit trees and with her consent
she has allowed me to use her
produce to cut down on food.
-Grow a lemon tree and herbs

Bathroom
108.3L
Normally I have very long showers and
wait for the water to heat up before I get
in. I also turn the shower on and leave it
until I organise myself, leaving the
shower running for 3 minutes which
wastes 27L
-Shorter showers
-5 minute shower max
-2 minutes for dad

Reduce minutes spent in shower
Turn on the shower when ready to go in
instead of waiting for it to warm up

Toilet 23.3L -Use half flushes when need be
S00153607 Eco Plan 14/03/14
Kitchen 33.3L -Only use dishwasher when full
Garden - We use our water tank to water our
garden.

Laundry 15 L In the current situation, we try our best
to save water when possible, for
example we use quick wash and auto
water saving wash as well as washing in
cold water.
A strategy we could further use is to
limit our washing and wash when we
really need to as well as washing with
the machine full rather than a couple of
items.

Other 4L Instead of using a hose to wash my car I
can fill a bucket up and use that to wash
my car.
