No Grey Area: The Absolute Truth

Have you ever seen a sweepstakes competition where you had the chance to win something
awesome..?! But, the fine print revealed that there was a catch to it:

FOLLOW THESE EASY STEPS AND YOU COULD WIN YOUR DREAM CAR!!!
Not all entries winannnnd oh yea.. winners will only receive a life size cardboard cut-out of the vehicle and not the actual car.

Or a new medicine that they say will cure a particular ailment but it has even worse side
effects than the issue it fixes:

THIS NEW CREAM WILL CLEAN UP THAT PESKY ACNE THAT YOU
HAVE HAD ALL YOUR LIFE!!!
This does not work for everyone. It will also cause massive swelling of the nose, ear lobes and teethe, your arm will fall off and oh yea you could die!

Wouldnt life be so much easier if you could just see things for what they truly are without
having to worry about a whole bunch of opposing things mixed in with it? God thinks so too!!!

Revelation 3:14-19
New Living Translation (NLT)
14Write this letter to the angel of the church in Laodicea. This is the message from the one
who is the Amenthe faithful and true witness, the beginning
e
of Gods new creation: 15I
know all the things you do, that you are neither hot nor cold. I wish that you were one or the
other! 16But since you are like lukewarm water, neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my
mouth! 17You say, I am rich. I have everything I want. I dont need a thing! And you dont
realize that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked. 18So I advise
you to buy gold from megold that has been purified by fire. Then you will be rich. Also buy
white garments from me so you will not be shamed by your nakedness, and ointment for
your eyes so you will be able to see. 19I correct and discipline everyone I love. So be
diligent and turn from your indifference.

2. Jesus would rather us be ____ or ____ according to verse 15.

3. How does Jesus determine whether or not we are hot or cold? (See beginning of verse 15)

4. What is Jesus reaction to someone whose actions are lukewarm? (verse 16)

Have you ever heard of the word, Absolute? By definition, it means: a value or principle
that is regarded as universally valid or that may be viewed without relation to other things.
For example, good and evil are considered absolutes. You can only be one or the other; not
both at the same time. (Mark 3:22-26).

The God we serve is absolute. Its the same thing as being holy, which means to be set
apart unto one thing and one thing only. For example, God is ONLY good and he is NEVER
evil. Not only is He absolute and holy, but He commands us to be the same way. (1 Pet 1:16,
Lev 20:26). We must choose!

Lets look at some other Absolutes from the word of God and think about the choices we
have to make.

Blessed? or Cursed? Deut 28 Emphasis: verses 1 & 15

Wise? or Foolish? Eph 5:15-16

Healed? or Sick? Numbers 21:7-9, 1 Peter 2:24

Humble? or Prideful James 4:6

Love? or Hate? John 14:23-24

Mankind likes the grey area. Its comfortable. We dont have to rub anyone the wrong way in
the grey area. No one is wrong and no one is right in the grey area. We can all just coexist
with our different views in the grey area. We dont have to sacrifice and live holy lives in the
grey area. We only have to serve God when we prefer to but when it gets tough or we
disagree, we can do what we think is right in the grey area. There are no commitments in the
grey area. No obligations in the grey area. We are not tied down in the grey area and that is
just what we naturally want. To Be Free!

This is the highest form of deception. We think by not making an absolute choice that we are
free to do whatever and not suffer any consequences. The truth is, real freedom comes
when we choose Christ. And, not just in words but in action. That is how Jesus determines
where we stand and how the world will know who we belong to. Either we are with Him or
against Him. There is no grey area to God.

The good news is that once you have accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior, you have
been made Holy and set apart by the blood of Jesus. Now, its time to make the right choices
in life that show you stand for Him and Him alone. When we firmly stand for Christ, we wont
fall for the silly tricks of the enemy. Dont budge, dont give in and dont quit and we will see
victory! So, what will you choose?
