DIOCESAN EDUCATION COUNCIL
The reorganized Diocesan Education Council
will meet for Part II of its orientation on June

, at 5:00pm at the Diocesan Center in
Clifton.

STEM PROFESSIONAL
DEVELOPMENT
There will be meetings for Cohorts I & II on
June 9
th
and June 10
th
in the cafeteria at
John Paul II Center. Dr. Diana Grabowski is
the facilitator. The schedule is

At noon on June 10

all principals of
Cohorts I and II will meet in Room 102 to
finalize dates for the 2014-2015.

: A nano technology workshop for
all principals and middle school science
and math teachers will be held from 1:00
3:00pm at St. Anthony School, Hawthorne.
This will be an orientation for principals
and teachers on how to implement nano
technology in the middle schools.

STUDY ISLAND
A reminder that the pretest for grades 48
(which are the new grades for the new school
year) are to be administered during the week
of June 2
nd
through June 13
th
. After June
13
th
, the pretest is closed.


TEACHER EVALUATION COMMITTEE
A meeting will be held at the Diocesan Center
on June 12
th
, at 2:00 pm in the main
conference room. Finishing revisions to the
draft for the teacher evaluations instrument
will be the agenda.

GRADE 2 REPORT CARDS
For All Principals and 2nd Grade Teachers:
There will be a meeting on June 16
th
in the
cafeteria of John Paul II Center from 1:00
3:00 pm to discuss the implementation of the
Grade 2 report card for the new school year.

GRADE 3 REPORT CARDS
For Committee Members and their 3rd
Grade Teachers ONLY: There will be a
meeting at St. Anthony School on June 17
th
,
from 10:30am-12:30pm. Lunch will be
provided. The focus will be working on a pilot
3
rd
grade report card. Bring the math and
RLA curriculum.

STANDARDS BASED GRADING
A meeting to develop a rubric for the K-2
report cards will be held on June 19
th,
from
10:00am2:00pm in the Terrace Room at the
Diocesan Center. This meeting is for
committee members only and not to be
confused with a general meeting. This
meeting replaces the May 27
th
date.




CONTRACT FORMS
Teacher contract forms for the 2014-2015
school year and principal contract forms for
the 2014-2015 school year can be accessed
here. There are no changes in the forms from
those used in the current year. Note that no
alterations are to be made to the forms.
Principals are reminded that once signed a
copy of each principals contract is to be
sent to the Catholic Schools Office.

NEW PRINCIPALS ORIENTATION
The orientation program for principals new
to the Diocese of Paterson will be held on
August 18
th
, beginning at 10:00am and
concluding by 3:00pm. The program will
take place at the Diocesan Center, 777
Valley Road, Clifton, NJ 07013.

OPENING PRINCIPALS MEETING
The first meeting of the year for all principals
and high school presidents will be held on
August 19
th
, at St. Paul Inside the Walls.
The program will start with Mass at 11:00am,
celebrated by Bishop Serratelli, and be
followed by lunch and the program. The
program will conclude by 3:00pm, at the
latest. Invitations to Pastors of parishes with
schools as well as high school chaplains will
be sent near the end of July. In the
meantime, principals are asked to remind
pastors to save the date.

NEW TEACHER ORIENTATION
The orientation program for all teachers new
to schools in the Diocese of Paterson will be
held at DePaul Catholic High School on
August 22
nd
. The program will begin at
9:00am and conclude by 2:00pm. Continental
breakfast will be available at 8:30am, and
lunch will also be provided. Participation by
all new professional staff is required.
Principals are welcome. Principals are
reminded to inform new hires about this
program. Use this link to register them with
the Catholic Schools Office.


STATEMENT OF ASSURANCE
Principals are reminded to submit to the
Catholic Schools Office the Security Drill
Statement of Assurance, page 1 only, stating
that all required drills have been conducted.
Retain a copy for the schools file along with
the Security Drill Record Form that has a list
of all of the schools security drills for the
2013-2014 school year. Fax the Statement
(which can be found on the State website) to
Dr. Marianne Conway (973-779-0083).

CONSULTATION
Principals are reminded to contact their local
Districts to schedule Consultation Meetings
prior to June 30
th
about Federal Programs.
This step is important in ensuring that a
school receives funding for Chapters 192 and
193, Nursing services and Technology and
Textbook aid. Principals should check this
website prior to their Consultations:

technology initiative for the 2014-2015 school
year is in the approval process and will be
posted on this website when approved

UNIT PLANS
Each elementary and secondary school is to
have scheduled two full days during the
month of June for teachers to develop unit
plans according to the ACE differentiated unit
structure. Note that both the math and ELA
curricula have been reviewed. Significant
changes to the formatting of the ELA
curriculum have been made. For math an
explanation was developed for the
implementation of K-5 and 6-8. ACE will then
put these revised documents into the unit
template. To facilitate unit planning in June,
both the K-8 math and ELA curricula are on
the Diocesan website:

WEBSITE OFFER
The Catholic Schools Office is in the process
of designing a new website with Zumu
Software of Atlantic Highlands, N.J., a leading
vendor of educational websites. This full-
featured website will have online forms,
videos, photo gallery, etc. Furthermore, as a
part of this proposal, the CSO has contracted
with Zumu to offer a full-featured and fully
supported website for any Paterson Diocese
school for $300.00 per year. Zumu web
hosting is e-rate certified; therefore, a school
can offset this annual web hosting cost
through its e-rate application. Interested
schools should contact Ed Card at

ALERT SOLUTIONS TRAINING
There will be two training sessions for the new
instant alert vendor, Alert Solutions, in June.
These dates are being held exclusively for the
Diocese of Paterson schools, so schools are
not required to pre-register for the course.

APPLE I-PAD & I-CART TRAINING
The Diocese will be hosting Apple
training as a part of its iPad initiative.
This training will provide insight on how
Apple devices can be configured utilizing
Apple Configurator software. Apple
Configurator is a free utility from Apple that
facilitates the configuration and software
installation on multiple iPads or iPods
simultaneously. Schools do not need iPad
carts to avail themselves of this training. All
schools utilizing or contemplating the use of
Apple products (iPad, iPod, MacBook) are
encouraged to attend this one-day training on
either June 11
th
, 9:00am to 3:00pm, at
Assumption School, 63 Macculloch Ave.,
Morristown, or June 18
th
, 9:00am to 3:00pm,
at St. Anthony School, 270 Diamond Bridge
Ave., Hawthorne. Attendees should only
attend one session as they are identical. Each
