SELECT BIBLIOGRAPHY OF

SYSTEMIC FUNCTION
LINGUISTICS

M.A.K. Halliday, Christian M.I.M. Matthiessen & Alice Caffarel
28 March 1997
DRAFT of Version 1.0.
This is a pre-release version of Version 1.0. Comments and corrections are
very welcome. Please submit them to the compilers or send them to
cmatthie@pip.engl.mq.edu.au. Classified and sorted submissions are much
easier for us to handle than complete lists of individual publications which
we have to sort and filter. Many warm thanks for your help! A bibliography
and general database for systemic work on languages other than English is
maintained by Alice Caffarel on the WWW:
http://www.itu.arts.su.edu.au/typology/SFLTitle.html

Here new entries can easily be added.

The present bibliography was first compiled by M.A.K. Halliday in 1985.
We have since jointly expanded and updated it. We gratefully acknowledge
contributions from many scholars including Nancy & Peter Fries, Jim
Martin and Mick O'Donnell.

In general, this bibliography does not contain reviews of non-systemic work
by systemic contributors nor does it include works in progress. On the
whole, we have not included references to Firthian or Neo-Firthian work
since these are well represented elsewhere. Similarly, we have not included
works within the Birmingham School unless they explicitly involve
systemic concepts: while all Birmingham work is relevant it does represent a
distinct tradition. For a bibliography of functional linguistic work in general,
see V. Prakasam, L.S. Ramaiah & M. Kanakachary, 1991, Functional
linguistics: selectively annotated bibliography, Hyderabad: Central Institute
of English & Foreign Languages. Entries for systemic software have not yet
been added. Neither the inclusion of entries or the failure to include
systemic works represents a value judgment on the part of the compilers.
