PERPUSTAKAAN UNIVERSITAS SURAKARTA

Abstract
This thesis is discusses about how to make a web-based information system for a
library in University of Surakarta . As we know, the library grew rapidly and dynamically ,
the manual systems isn't enough for handling the workload , particulary in the field of
procurement regular activity, superintendence , categorize , and maintenance the circulation.
Then , we need some new information system with the use of computer-based-technology
information or CBIS ( Computer Based Information System ) .
The library in University of Surakarta as one of the source information has developed an
old information system although isn't going well. There a many problems has found for
example ,about the unstructure storage data of libraries , the service circulation ,etc. So we
need some new better system information .
This research aims to improve the efficiency of the work in the library of University of
Surakarta. With this new system information is expected to ease the visitors for getting an
information they're needed without must to come to the library.
The data collection methods used in this research is using the method of librarianship ,
interview , observation. Meanwhile for the information system development is analysis
systems, design , development and programming systems and also the implementation
systems.
This system is built by a web-based technology.So,this information systems developed by
a web-program language. Then we built this information systems by a programming language
php with supported by MySQL.
The old system information has a many problems found, so with this research is expected
can help for the libraries activities.The development progress is expected can be integrated in
intranet network.

Preface
Library develops rapidly and dynamically, its manual system is felt not adequate more
for handling the work burden, particularly routinely practices in procurement, cataloguing,
and circulation supervision areas. Such condition requires computer technology-based
information system or CBIS (Computer Base Information System).
The Library in University of Surakarta as the agency that provides library materials as
a source of information requires a computerized system to process data and to perform work
activities of the library. This is done because the Surakarta University Library has not been
effectively utilize computer system to perform work activities, while visitors who want to get
other sources of information the longer growing.
Ease of visitors to register, get information about library materials and to Transact
borrowing library material becomes a thing that should be noted. In addition to the foregoing
with computerization will also assist the management in decision making. Based on the
problems that the proposed reform of the old system into the new information system with a
web-based computer technology.

Methods
The methods that used in for writing this thesis is :
a. Librarianship
An authorized data by studying literature, package module and guide, books
guidelines books library and all other kepustakaan which are deemed necessary and
support
b. Observation
Method to get data by doing direct observation registration and systematically
against symptoms or the phenomena associated without asking questions
c. Interview
This method is made to a resource person by way of asking questions that
support problem. The interview was conducted on a resource person or expert support
problems.
d. Systems Analyst
The Data collected through the data collection instruments will be analyzed by
focusing on the function of information system and management.
e. Systems Design
Design the structure of the input, output, files, database structure, programs,
procedures, hardware, software, design decisions and design objectives required to
support information systems.
f. Systems Development
Solve back architecture, developed a flow chart outline, writing instruction
program, assembling programs, preparing data for testing, perform testing, checking
results, diagnose errors, and correct programs.
g. Systems Testing
Testing the system has been built to check theres no error in the structure.
h. Systems Implementation
Implement results so from the development system to the computer files so
that the system is ready to be used to replace the old system

Conclusion & Recommendation
1. The Library in University of Surakarta have not use a computer system effectively in
doing work.To helping handling ioads wasrequired computerized system, work in this
by computer technology dna-based web.
2. In design of this system aspects of the security system ( security system ) in detail not
talk about.It is hoped to researchers next may increase and complete the deficiencies
that exist.
