This lesson plan aims to teach 6th grade students about cities around the world. It uses integrated speaking, listening, reading and writing activities. Students will warm up by reviewing prepositions of place on maps. They will then read about and describe different capital cities, writing reports in groups. Finally, students will discuss different types of cities and answer questions about their ideal trips. B.Affective objectives: a) to create a warm atmosphere, b) to help students enjoy speaking English.

Captatio benevolentiae/ Warm-up (9`-10`) Aims: to draw the pupils` attention and to introduce the new lesson. Interaction: T-S. Skills: speaking, reading Activities: greetings, homework checking, introduction of the next lesson.
1st Activity: Greetings (<1`) Procedure: informal conversation: -SS: Hello, Miss! T: Hello class! How are you today? -SS: We are fine. You? T: I`m fine, thank you. Sit down, please!
2nd Activity: Homework checking (2`-3`) Aims: to evaluate students` home activity Interaction: T-S Skills: reading Procedure: - The teacher asks the students what their homework was and students answer. - Students read their homework. - The teacher corrects the possible errors with the help of the students.
3rd Activity: warming up for the next lesson (5`-6`) Aims: to revise and reinforce Prepositions of place Interaction: T-S, S-T Skills: listening, speaking, writing Procedure: Teacher tells the objectives for the lesson and asks students: When do we use prepositions of place? Then, teacher gives students maps of Europe and asks them Where is London located? In the north/ south/ east or west of England? On the east cost or west coast? Where is Madrid located in Spain? Then, teacher writes on the blackboard the prepositions of place used. They listen and repeat orally the prepositions.
!!! IMPORTANT: whenever students don`t understand the teacher`s questions and affirmations she will translate them into Romanian.
2. The core of the lesson (38`) Aims: - to make the lesson seem fun and exciting, to involve students in individual and group activities to introduce and revise city life vocabulary related to different places and buildings; Interaction: T-S, S-S. Skills: reading, writing, comprehension, communication skills. Activities:
1st Activity: ex.2 from page 84 (4`) Aims: - to read a text for specific information. Interaction: T-S. Skills: speaking, reading Procedure: Students have to read the first text loudly and fill in the gap with the suitable number, according to the picture. Teacher asks them about the results of their work and they correct the exercise together. Teacher tells students that they should keep in mind this report as an example.
2nd Activity: a description of a given capital city (20`) Aims: - to introduce and revise city life vocabulary related to different places and buildings; - to write a report; Interaction: T-S, S-S. Skills: reading, writing, speaking skills Procedure: Teacher writes on the blackboard 6 names of capital cities, then she asks What is Madrid/ Athens/London/Amsterdam/Sydney/Paris famous for? Students have to read the words given by the teacher and deduce their meaning. Students have to work in groups to write a report about a capital city using pictures, given words and prepositions of place. Teacher gives them 10 minutes to finish their report. The leaders read their report and other students from other teams have to guess the city. After they guessed the cities, the menbers of the teams come and write on the blackboard near their city`s name a short description from their report.
3rd Activity: ex. 6b from page 85 (4) Aims: to develop the pupils` reading and speaking skills. Interaction: T-S, S-T Skills: reading and speaking skills Procedure: Students have to give examples of seaside resorts, industrial cities,mountain resorts, university towns, tourist cities in Romania.
4th Activity: a worksheet Let`s go on our jouney (10`) Aims: to develop the pupils` reading and speaking skills. Interaction: T-S, S-T Skills: reading and speaking skills Procedure: Students have to read the questions from the worksheet and answer them. Teacher asks How do you imagine your ideal trip?
3.The end of the lesson (2`) T congratulates the SS and the winning teams. T encourages the others to do a better figure next time.The teacher assigns homework to the students (ex. 2B from the worksheet). The teacher dismisses the class.
