1. I can explain how Lincolns election set off secession and connect secession to the debate of
nationalism vs. sectionalism. (U5.1.6, U5.2.1)

3. I can use maps to analyze advantages and disadvantages held by each side during the war and
predict who will win the war based on these advantages and disadvantages. (U5.2.2)
4. I can explain Lincolns viewpoint on fighting the war/ending slavery at the beginning of the
war by analyzing primary sources (U5.2.3)
5. I can analyze the Emancipation Proclamation from the point of view of different groups
(U5.2.3).
6. I can evaluate the significance of the Gettysburg Address and explain its connection to the
Declaration of Independence. (U5.3.1, U5.3.4, U5.2.3)
7. I can examine the Thirteenth Amendment and determine why Lincoln pushed for the

Civil War Unit Final Project: (3-4 days)
Create Prezi, Powerpoint, or visual project (poster) to show what you learned about the Civil War
Presentation should creatively answer the questions:
o Was war necessary to end slavery?
o How did the war affect everyday people? Soldiers? Women?
o What do you think of Lincoln after reading the primary sources from this unit?
o Should the North have used total war to end the war? Or was it too inhumane?
Each question should be answered with EVIDENCE from a text, video, or map
Graphics (relevant pictures and paintings) should be used
All graphics and information should be cited
