Wyoming was acquired from France as part of the Louisiana Purchase in 1803
John Colter, a fur-trapper, was the first white man to have entered the region.
John Colter explored the Yellowstone Region
When the Wyoming Territory was organized, Wyoming women became the
first in the nation to obtain the right to vote
Some of the tribes that lived there were the Blackfeet, Cheyenne, Kiowa, Sioux,
and Shoshone.
Oregon trail ruts- here, Thousands of wagon wheels and oxen hooves
passed here during the 1800s
Independence Rock- Thousands of people engraved their names here
during the emigration to the west in the 1800s
Devils Tower- president Theodore Roosevelt proclaimed Devils Tower
as the first national monument in 1906.

Yellowstone National Park- Established in 1872, Yellowstone National Park is
Americas first national park
Grand Teton National Park- the snake river flows through this park. It has
several glaciers and forests.
Fort Laramie- founded in 1834 as a fur trading post. In 1849 it became a U.S.
army post. The fort was garrisoned until 1890.
Flaming Gorge- a recreational area. It features wide open surfaces for water
activities. About 2.5 million people visit here annually to participate in boating,
fishing, camping, and hiking.

STATE BIRD
Their state bird is the western meadowlark, Its a loud, brightly colored
songbird that sings various songs
It was adopted as Wyomings state bird in 1927
It makes its nest out of grass, pine needles, and horse hair
It lives in open grassland and prairies in western and central USA, southern
Canada, and northern Mexico. This songbird is the state bird for five other
states
STATE FLAG
It is a bison on a blue field bordered in white and red and has the state seal branded on the bison
The woman in the seal represents the state motto Equal Rights and two men represent cattle ranchers
and miners
It was designed by Mrs. A.C. Keyer of Casper
It was adopted by the fourteenth legislature on January 31,
1917

The name Wyoming comes from a Delaware Indian word. It means
