Definition of garbage
Garbage is any matter that is no longer wanted or needed.Three other names commonly used
are :waste, refuse and trash.
Problems which can result from improperly disposed garbage
If you dont dispose of garbage properly, there can be many problems. Some are :
1) It can contaminate water
) Garbage can clog gutters and cause flooding
!) "ests can get into garbage and spread diseases li#e dengue and leptospirosis
$) There is a horrible stench.
Three ways to properly dispose garbage
%ou must dispose of garbage properly to pre&ent it from affecting anything or anyone. Three
ways to do so are :
1) 'urning
) 'agging
!) (isposing household garbage in co&ered trash cans
REduce, REuse and REcycle
Reduce:
)aste pre&ention, or *source reduction,* means consuming and throwing away less. It includes:
purchasing durable, long+lasting goods,
see#ing products and pac#aging that are as free of to-ics as
possible,
redesigning products to use less raw material in production,
ha&e a longer life, or be used again after its original use.
REuse
.eusing items ++ by repairing them, donating them to charity and community groups, or selling
them ++ also reduces waste. .eusing products, when possible, is e&en better than recycling
because the item does not need to be reprocessed before it can be used again.
REcyclets of Recycling
.ecycling turns materials that would otherwise become waste into &aluable resources. In
addition, it generates a host of en&ironmental, financial, and social benefits. /aterials li#e glass,
metal, plastics, and paper are collected, separated and sent to facilities that can process them into
new materials or products.

The name of the landfill in 'arbados is /angro&e landfill, or as the 'a2ans call it 3/ount
Stin#eroo4. It is located in St.Thomas.

plastic liner between the ground and the trash, and a layer of soil is added e&ery day to co&er up
the trash on top. /aterials deposited in a landfill do not decompose 8uic#ly.
