Social Studies August 29 th , 2013 The Famous CIA The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) is one of many other institutions that gather intelligence. The CIA is based on 3 main concepts which are gathering information about foreign government affairs, institutions and people they analyze this information with other U.S. intelligence agencies to give assessment to senior United States policymakers, in part to the U.S. President as well. President Harry Truman signed the national Security Act in 1947 establishing the CIA and essentially its main purpose was with coordinating the nations intelligence activities and correlating, evaluating and disseminating intelligence affecting national security. The CIA has many ways to approach to a problem but the first thing they do is identify problem regarding the security of the U.S. government, such as what types of activities terrorist organizations are planning, or how countries that have chemical weapons plan to use these weapons, then they look for a way to collect information about the problem. There are several ways to collecting this information. Translating foreign newspaper and magazine articles and radio and television broadcasts provides an abroad source of intelligence. Imagery satellites take pictures from space, and imagery analysts write reports about what they. Signals analysts work to decrypt messages sent by other countries. Operations officers recruit foreigners to give information about their countries, After all this information is collected, intelligence analysts pull together the relevant information from all available sources and assess what is happening, why it is happening, what might occur next, and what it means for US interests. The CIA consists of various inside components which are four; The National Clandestine Service (NCS), the Directorate of Intelligence (DI), the Directorate of Science and Technology (DS&T), and the Directorate of Support (DS) and all these facilities are located in Langley, Virginia a few miles apart from Washington D.C. The NCS is responsible is responsible for collecting foreign intelligence secretly especially human source intelligence. The DI is in charge of analyzing all types of intelligence and make reports, briefings and papers on foreign intelligence problems. They use different types of method like satellite photography and foreign media to ensure national security. While the DS&T on the other hand is in charge of collecting and exploiting information to expedite the execution of the agencys mission by employing innovative technical solution to the most demanding intelligence problem. The last but not least is the DS that is in charge of providing support to the CIAs mission. They also provide a full range support that includes; facility services, financial management, medical services and logistics. The United States fund the CIA program, the Director of the Central Intelligence Agency is elected by the president with the advice and consent of the U.S. Senate. The Director manages the operations, personnel, and budget of the Central Intelligence Agency. In conclusion the CIA is one of the most well known institutions around the world, and is always looking for new recruits. They are always analyzing information regarding U.S. government security. In 2013 the CIAs budget was estimated to be $14.7 Billion, and it is estimated because the government had disclosed a total figure since 2007.
