Not everybody gets an opportunity to learn under the editors of India's largest media conglomerate.

Students attended a special editorial training session, and visited the printing press. A series of workshops on various aspects of journalism
like reporting, editing and designing, combined with deadline-based inputs for the NIE helped me think on my feet and develop insights into
the world of journalism.
At the workshop, students wrote reviews, feature articles and edited content. In what the students called 'a dream come true', editor-in-chief
of Times NOW Arnab Goswami had an hour-long interaction session with them. "The conversation with Mr Arnab was enriching. I learnt
there is much more to journalism than just breaking news. It is about being the voice of the nation, representing the people's opinion and
creating fear among wrongdoers and those in power," said Parina Muchhala from Gopi Birla Memorial School.
"At Times NIE, we learnt that it takes time, hard work and passion to reach to the topmost rung of the ladder. The workshop has made me
think and write with a better approach," said Nikita Pardesi from N L Dalmia High School.

About 30 students from different schools participated in the Times NIE eight-day summer training workshop that was organized to give them
an idea of the various elements that combine for the successful running of a newspaper.
In the first five days that focused on editorial activities, students were taught reporting, editing and page-layout.
Divided into groups, the students had to research and write reports on various topics, such as civic issues in Pune, music, sports, etc. One
group edited the other group's copies and decided the page layouts, just as professional journalists do. The idea was to mix fun with learning
and make the students feel like journalists.
The latter part of the workshop was concentrated on marketing and production.
Along with learning something new, the students also utilized the opportunity to interact with students from other schools.
Janmejay Keskar, student of Kalmadi Shamrao School, Aundh, said, "I never knew a newspaper office worked 24 hours in a day. It was
amazing to see the different departments coordinated with each other at different hours in a day. This workshop helped me learn a lot.
Sarah Naik, a std IX student of Sardar Dastur Nosherwan Girls High School, said, "When my teachers told me I had to attend a workshop, I
imagined yet another boring summer activity. But I was wrong. When I entered the conference room at the Times House, the very look of the
place gave me a positive feeling. I felt elated when I was selected as the reporter, and I actually felt like one. The discussion on various topics
were lively and as the days passed, our writing skills improved. I learnt how to write reports, reviews, interview people, copy edit and many
other things. The best part of the whole workshop was the visit to Radio Mirchi. At the end of it all, I felt transformed into a professional
journalist. I now look forward to seriously taking up journalism."
