disconnect the electrical connectors from the ECM and replace with the new ECM. Important Note: if your ECM failed because of an electrical issue, the new one may also. Find and remedy the issue before replacing the ECM to avoid another expensive mistake. There are no refunds on ECMs, for obvious reasons out of our control. If this ECM originally came from your vehicle, it should work without a relearn procedure. Otherwise, IF YOU ARE INSTALLING OUR ECM, YOU MUST FOLLOW THIS PROCEDURE ONCE INSTALLED TO START THE VEHICLE.

Passkey Security (VATS) Relearn Procedure 01-10 NOTE: The accessory key position is never used in this procedure. If at any time the vehicle starts and runs normally, you can skip the remaining steps. You are done. 1. Disable your headlamps (parking brake apply, dont remove any relays or fuses). 2. Attempt to start the vehicle. Vehicle may or may not 'fire' and quit. Release to run position. Some vehicles will not engage the starter. This is normal. DO NOT TURN OFF KEY YET !! 3. Leave the key in the "on" or run position, until the 'security' light goes out or quits alternately flashing between "Security" and "Battery". This relearn period always takes 10 minutes. 4. After security light off, turn the key to OFF: Wait 5 seconds. 5. Repeat the above procedure (steps 2 through 4) 2 additional times for a total of 3 start-relearn-attempts, remembering to turn the key to OFF (not run) between each 10 minute relearn procedure. On the third cycle, it will ignore the VIN differences in the various modules and will start. THIS WILL TAKE 30 MINUTES--NO LESS. If the 4th start attempt fails to start the vehicle you did one relearn step (or all of them incorrectly). If you left your headlamps on until the battery went dead and voltage dropped below 10.5 volts, charge them before proceedng!! LMM 07.5-10 INJECTOR INFORMATION
FUEL INJECTOR FLOW RATE PROGRAMMING CIRCUIT / SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
These ECMs have some special considerations when it comes to fuel injector flow rate programming. Each injectors flow rate information and cylinder position are stored in the memory of both the glow plug control module (GPCM) and the ECM. The fuel injector flow rate programming typically needs to be done when any of the following procedures are performed:
The ECM is replaced The GPCM is replaced A fuel injector is replaced
If you have received a replacement ECM with factory programming from us, then the flow rate information has not been programmed, as this information is not in any GM database. Your dealer can retrieve this data from the GPCM, as can any mechanic with a tech 2. If the flow rate numbers are not available from either control module, the numbers will need to be retrieved from each individual injector. However, you may have no problems skipping this process, as the programming we provide has disabled the diagnostic associated with it. Determine for yourself if you want to have this done. The procedures to take care of this are provided here.
PROCEDURES FOR FUEL INJECTOR FLOW RATES
CIRCUIT / SYSTEM VERIFICATION: Review the Display ECM & GPCM Injector Flow Rates parameter with a scan tool. All cylinders should be programmed with a flow rate number. Both the GPCM and the ECM should be programmed with the same flow rate numbers for the corresponding cylinders.
CIRCUIT / SYSTEM TESTING: 1. With the tech 2 scan tool installed, enter the vehicle information and select the following options: Special Functions/Fuel System/Injector Flow Rate Programming/Display ECM & GPCM Injector Flow Rates
2. Record all flow rate numbers with the corresponding cylinders from the control modules. 3. If any injectors have been replaced, go to Reprogram Injector Flow Rates parameter and enter the flow rate number of the new injector to the corresponding cylinder. The flow rate numbers of the new injector to the corresponding cylinder. The flow rate numbers will automatically update both control modules.
IMPORTANT: When installing a new fuel injector, ensure that the IQA data number from the yellow IQA Data Tag, shipped with the new injector, is programmed to the correct cylinder
If the ECM was replaced: go to Copy GPCM Flow Rates to ECM parameter and reprogram the ECM. This will update the ECM with the GPCM flow rate numbers.
If the GPCM was replaced: or the flow rate numbers are not the same for both modules, go to Copy ECM Flow Rates to GPCM parameter and reprogram the GPCM. This will update the GPCM with the ECM flow rate numbers.
If both control modules were replaced: go to Reprogram Injector Flow Rates parameter and enter the previously recorded flow rate numbers or the numbers retrieved from each individual injector, to the corresponding cylinders.
NOTE: If replacing a PCM with a GM SPO replacement part, after programming, these modules will learn the incoming fuel continue password immediately upon receipt of a password message. Once a password message is received, and a password is learned, a learn procedure must be performed to change this password again. A PCM which has been previously installed in another vehicle will have learned the programming to learn the current vehicle password.
WHEN TO RE-LEARN? Use this procedure after replacing any of the following:
The Passlock sensor The BCM The PCM with a used ECM (new ECM may not require the procedure)
RE-LEARN PROCEDURES There are 2 available methods to perform the programming procedure: A 10-minute procedure which required a Tech 2 and a techline terminal. A 30-minute procedure which does not require a tech 2.
TECH 2 LEARN PROCEDURE 1. Connect the Tech 2 to the vehicle.
2. Select Request VTD Info. for SPS under Special Functions in the Body Control Module menu. 3. Disconnect the Tech 2 from the vehicle and connect it to a techline terminal.
4. On the techline terminal, select Theft Module Re-Learn under Service Programming.
5. Disconnect the Tech 2 from the techline terminal and connect it to the vehicle.
6. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
7. Select VTD Re-Learn under Service Programming.
8. Attempt to start the engine, then release the key to ON, vehicle will not start.
9. Observe the SECURITY telltale. After approximately 10 minutes, the telltale will turn OFF. The vehicle is not ready to relearn the Passlock Sensor Data Code and/or password in the next ignition switch transition from OFF to CRANK.
10. Turn OFF the ignition, and wait 5 seconds
11. Start the engine, the vehicle has not learned the password.
12. With the Tech 2 scan tool, clear any DTCs
30-MINUTE SECURITY (VATS) RELEARN PROCEDURE (no tech 2 required) Note: the accessory key position is never used in this procedure
1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
then
2. Attempt to start the engine (vehicle will not start) then release the key to ON,. Do not turn the key backwards, just release it.
3. Observe the SECURITY (padlock symbol) light. After exactly 10 minutes, it will turn OFF.
4. Turn OFF the ignition and wait 5 seconds
5. Repeat steps 2 through 4 two more times for a total of 3 cycles/30 minutes. The vehicle is now ready to relearn the Passlock Sensor Data Code and/or passwords on the next ignition switch transition from OFF to CRANK.
6. Start the engine. The vehicle has not learned the Passlock Sensor Data Code and/or password. The vehicle learns the Passlock Sensor Data Code and/or password on the next ignition switch transition from OFF to CRANK. You must turn the ignition OFF before attempting to start the vehicle.
FOLLOWUP: If you have any trouble, common mistakes are not following the procedure exactly, and low battery voltage. It is ok to do the procedure with a battery charger attached. But never install an ECM this way.
Usually, all issues are resolved by re-reading and following the procedures exactly. Contact us at tech@killerbeeperformance.com if you are unable to resolve your issue.
