GUIDE TO SOCIAL JUSTICE AND EQUITY SURVIVAL

@WWU

Viking Union 515 provides non-judgmental and
unbiased programs, safe space, and resources
to both students who identify as Queer and
their allies. The QRC does this by reaching out
and building community among Western
students of diverse backgrounds, advocating for
and educating about the Queer identity through
events and resources, creating and affirming
positive self-identities, networking with Queer
clubs, providing peer counseling services, and
addressing current issues relevant to the Queer
community. Contains a large library of books
which no other part of campus contains. Goal:
to be a resource for the student body on
campus to talk about intersectionality racism
oppression privilege with the queer identity.
VU512 Aims
to educate our community on issues of racial
justice, economic justice, and other issues of
marginalization, while empowering students to
put this education to action and focus on
discussing and challenging privilege and
oppression. SIRC contains a resource library
with films and books for students to check out
about issues that are often underrepresented in
mainstream media. Throughout the year, the
SIRC plans and facilitates numerous events that
also aim to education and empower students,
while centering and emphasizing voices that are
often marginalized within the media and
mainstream conversation.

VU514 Supports people of marginalized gender
identities and all people interested in our
resources. Offers safer space to all community
members and has a large library of books,
journals, magazines, and DVDs focusing on
topics like feminism, gender studies, and many
other topics. WC provides info on reporting
options to students who have experienced
violence or need referrals to other resources on
campus or in the community. Holds events that
promote inclusivity and always welcomes new
ideas for events. The office is not there just to
cater to students, but also to help cultivate the
ideas and hopes of others.

VU420"The ESC is a community that
supports historically underrepresented ethnic
students and allies by providing a social
atmosphere and inclusive environment where
we engage in identity exploration and strive for
cultural awareness and academic excellence."
There are many ethnic clubs that assist students
in transitioning to Western, developing cultural
identity, providing a sense of community, and
being active in social justice. Offers study space,
computer access, and resource information.
Anyone may join or be involved with the ESC
and its clubs.
