Recent Stories on Bullying
Bullying has #een around $or %uite a &hile no& and it has #een increasing o'er
the years #ecause no& &e hear a#out it and see it happening more o$ten. (oday &e hear
a#out )ids committing suicide #ecause they ha'e #een #ullied. *e can stop this $rom
happening i$ schools en$orced there #ullying policy. +or e,ample many students don-t
)no& there is a policy on #ullying. .$ students )no& there is a policy then they might not
&ant to #ully someone #ecause they )no& &hat can happen to them. Another &ay
schools can help those indi'iduals &ho are #eing #ullied is to help them sol'e the issue.
(here ha'e #een many cases &here nothing &as done to pre'ent an indi'idual $rom
getting #ullied in other cases it has #een success$ul to stop the #ullying $rom happening.
.n some recent stories &e see &hat has &or)ed in pre'enting #ullying and &hat hasn-t.
*e might not thin) #ullying is a #ig issue #ecause &e don/t )no& &hat stories are
going on today a#out #ullying #ut 01n March !2 3rayson Bruce a 4 year old #oy &as
#ullied #y se'eral )ids #ecause o$ his lo'e $or My Little Pony.5 3rayson &ould get
punched pushed around and &as called horri#le names. (his issue &as signi$icantly
contro'ersial #ecause #elie'e it or not the sta$$ $rom the 6orth 7arolina elementary
school told 3rayson and his mother that her sons My Little Pony #ac)pac) &as a 0trigger
$or #ullying5 and he &ould no longer #e allo&ed to #ring his My Little Pony #ac)pac) to
school. *e &ould imagine that the perpetrators &ere punished #ut in this particular case
the 'ictim &as punished. .nstead o$ prohi#iting 3rayson to &ear his #ac)pac) they
should ha'e dealt &ith this issue in a di$$erent &ay #ecause no one should #e #ullied o'er
something they li)e )ids ha'e the right o$ $reedom o$ e,pression.
Another recent story is o$ Michael an autistic teenage #oy He #ecame $riends
&ith 2 girls. 1ne day &hen Lauren Bush/s parents &eren/t home her and her $riend
started to #ully Michael. According to Hanna Rosin 0Bush put a )ni$e on the #oy/s
throat scared him )ic)ed him in the groin dragged him #y his hair and tried to get him
to ha'e se, &ith the $amily dog.5 *hile Bush did all o$ this her other younger $riend
recorded &hat &as going on. (he t&o girls also made Michael &al) through a hal$ $rozen
pond and &hen the ice #ro)e they didn/t help him and let him $all in. *hen they decided
to ta)e the #oy home they didn/t allo& him to ride on the car seat instead they put him in
the trun). Bush is #eing trialed as an adult and the other indi'idual as a 8u'enile. Hearing
this is e,tremely heart#rea)ing considering the $act that the #oy is autistic. (his only
pro'es that girls and #oys are #ullying )ids &ho they )no& &ould #e easy to mess &ith
and they don/t care i$ these indi'iduals they/re #ullying are mentally challenged or
disa#led. 7hildren &ith autism and other medical disa#ilities shouldn/t #e #ullied #ecause
it can 8ust cause more damage to them either physically mentally and emotionally.
+or instance Lizzie 9elas%uez &as #ullied through the internet #y her classmates.
(his started happening &hen t&o girls started ma)ing rude comments during lunch #ut
Lizzie ignored it. Later in the girls loc)er room another rude comment &as made lea'ing
Lizzie upset. (he #ullying continued &hen Lizzie &as online the t&o girl posted on
+ace#oo) 0Lizzie is a s)an). .$ you as) her to ha'e se, &ith you she &ill.5 Lizzie/s
mother #ecame 'ery angry and approached the principal sho&ing him the rude comments
#eing said. Lizzie on the other hand &as too scared to tell them &ho the girls &ere. A$ter
a $e& &ee)s Lizzie #ecomes o'er&helmed #y all the comments and decided to tell the
school counselor the names o$ the girls #ullying her. (he school principal called the girls
parents and con$ronted the girls. Based on #ullying statistics 0cy#er #ullying is on the
rise more than any other type o$ #ullying.5 Parents should #e a&are o$ &hat their )ids are
doing on the .nternet and they should teach their )ids the responsi#ility o$ #eing on the
.nternet.
*e may all thin) that #ullying isn/t a pro#lem #ut (he American :ustice
;epartment #ullying statistics sho&s that ! out o$ " )ids are #ullied. 0<<= o$ students
ha'e admitted to #eing the 'ictim o$ one type o$ #ullying.5 Many teens are #eing #ullied
and there are la&s that should #e en$orced. 7y#er #ullying is on top o$ any other type o$
#ullying. (his needs to #e addressed immediately #e$ore it escalates any $urther. Parents
must teach their children that #ullying is &rong and it can harm someone tremendously
&eather &e realize it or not. (here are a#out ""00 deaths per year due to #ullying. (eens
and children should #e en8oying their childhood #ut instead they ha'e to &orry a#out
getting #ullied. (eachers principals and sta$$ should #e more a&are o$ &hat happens in
schools. Parents should #e more a&are o$ &hat happens &ith their children and get
in'ol'ed to try to sol'e the pro#lems their )ids are dealing &ith.
