Heat. One of the better movies released in the mid 90's and full of some excellent weapons and movie weapon scenes.
The street level gun battle is one of the best modern day movie battles ever captured on scene and has yet to be
surpassed to this date.

Neil (De Niro) and his professional criminal crew hunt to score big money targets (banks, vaults, armored cars) and are,
in turn, hunted by Captain Vincent Hanna (Pacino) and his team of cops in the Robbery/Homicide police division. A
botched job puts Hanna onto their trail while they regroup and try to put together one last big 'retirement' score.

While there are a number of excellent weapon scenes the writers also work to develop the characters throughtout the
movie, showing Cpt. Hannas troubles with his personal home life as well as Neil breaking his cardinal rule "Never have
anything in your life that you can't walk out on in thirty seconds" by falling in love.

The weapons used in the movie are plentiful and exotic (for 1995) There are three major scenes in the movie
showcasing the weapons, along with three minor scenes were we get to see additional weapons, clearer shots of
previous weapons or breif shots of new weapons.

Major Scenes

- Scene 1 - Armoured car heist

- Scene 2 - Ambush at the Drive in

- Scene 3 - Bank Heist

Other Weapons

Armoured car heist

The inital action scene is one that sets the mood for the action sequences for the movie. While Neils crew is heisting the
armoured car of it's bonds they try not to cause any more damage as necassary, that is until Waingro (A temporary
edition to the crew) gets trigger happy with the guards. At that point it was all or nothing.

Neil providing backup

The weapons of choice for Neil and Chris in the armoured car heist are shortened M16 with solid carry handle, a four
position folding stock (similar to the M4) and armed with 30 round magazines. As demonstrated throughtout the movie
these are modified for full automatic.

The M16 is in current use by many branches of the US armed forces

Slick is packing an FN FAL. This is a 7.62mm battle rifle produced by Belgian Fabrique Nationale company. This
weapon has seen use in over 70+ countries including Canada, Australia, and Great Britian. It is still in use with the
Brazilian army as of today.

Slicks version is the paratrooper model with 20 round magazines and a folding stock in various shots you can see his
chest rig and upward of 10 magazines he is carrying. Thats alot of firepower.

Trejo is providing backup and security. He is armed with the AK47S assault rifle with a 30 round magazine. Chambered
in 7.62x39 this is a classic Soviet weapon first introduced in 1947. This version has an underfolding stock designed for
vehicle crews and paratroopers. We can see him laying down a police spike strip designed for puncturing tires.

Waingro threatening a guard

Waingro is packing a large .45 caliber handgun. I haven't been able to track down the exact model of this however. It
could be a Smith & Wesson model. It has been reported as being a Spanish made Star Megastar however there sems to
be some differences in the ejection port and a little around the barrel. You be the judge.

The security guard tried to pull a snub nosed .38 most likely a Colt detective special from his ankle holster before being
shot.

The robbers also have some handguns in the vests they are wearing, further analysis will be done to find out what they
are.

Ambush at the drive in.

Neils crew is supposed to meet up with Van Zants men to exchange the bonds for what they want. Cold hard cash.
However Van Zant wanted to be greedy and take the bonds, kill Neils crew and be all for the better. Boy did he mess
with the wrong crew.

Chris was providing overwatch security for the deal when things go wrong. We can see him here shooting at the driver
of the truck. His weapon of choice in this case is a HK91A1 rifle. This is the civilian version of the G3 series battle rifle. If
you look closely at the trigger group you can see it only has the two settings, safe and unsafe. It has the standard 20
round magazine, as well as what appears the factory folding bipod on it. It is interesting though that he chooses to kneel
whil firing at the truck rather then continuing to lay prone when shooting at the truck. You would think to stay prone and
open fire if need be. In addition he chooses not to have any optics on the weapon which probably would have been
handy in this role as sniper.

Hey wait for me!

The would be assassin that was first crushed by the station wagon and later shot multiple times is armed with a pretty
exotic weapon.

The Styer TMP is an Austrian made gun firing 9x19mm Luger ammunition it has a very high ROF of 900 rounds/minute
and is sporting a 30 round magazine. This weapon was designed as a personal defence weapon for up close encouters
and we can see the assassin properly utilizing it.

It appears to be slung properly and in the final scene before being run over you can see him firing it properly as the
weapon is stockless you are to push forward against the sling to keep it balanced.

The driver of the pickup tries to get away after being wounded by Chris and his accomplice is killed however at the
entrance to the drive in Slick pops around the corner armed with the Benelli M3 super 90 shotgun. Slick utilizes it in the
manual pump action mode (because it looks way cooler onscreen) to put a few shells of buckshot through the windshield
taking out the driver.

The M3 is a pump action/semi automatic 12 gauge shotgun. The underbarrel tube sports an 8 round capacity.

Neil while driving in the station wagon is sporting his sidearm of choice the Sig P220. He uses it very effectively through
the windshield.

Bank Heist

The bank heist and ensuing gun fight between Neils crew and the LAPD and detectives is one of cinematics greatest gun
fights in my opinion. The sheer voume and intensity of this modern day gun battle can only be compared to War movies
such as blackhawk down or Saving Private Ryan, both of which are a different category movie.

As they move into the Bank again we can see Neil, and Chris using the same weapons as the armoured car heist. Both
are sporting the shortened M16 with the collapsable stock.

An interesting thing to note is the way that they have setup there vests and rigs. You can see from this screenshot they
are carrying a large number of backup mags. The vest underneath appears to be a simle mesh rig and the mags are held
in place by some metal clips and a bit of tape. This rig allows for some quick access from under the suits. In addition you
can see that there is a bungie cord attached to the rear of the stock in a simple single point sling. Both Neil, Chris and
Slick have similar Rigs.

Slick on the other hand has switched out from his FN Fal he was using earlier. In this case he has switched over to an
Isreali made Galil ARM rifle.

This rifle is chambered in the 5.56 and utilizes 35 or 50 round magazines. Slick has repeatly shown us his fondness and
variety of guns and this is no exception.

As Neils crew exits the building the detectives are arriving on the scene. We can see two of the detectives moving up
into position. One is armed with what appears to be a police issue Remington 870 shotgun. These shotguns are common
in the police force and have been issued to LAPD units.

The other detective is armed with a full sized M16A2 rifle.

Vincent (Pacino) shows up on the scene sporting a very unique rifle. He arrives armed with the FN FNC Rifle. This
unique piece of weaponary packs the 5.56mm round and sports a 30 round magazine.

A number of police officers are also providing perimeter. When Neils crew trys to get away they respond to the shooting
with the standard issue LAPD sidearm the Beretta 92FS. In addition the shotguns are also Remington 870's.

Other Weapons

During the Takedown we see a closeup of Vincents sidearm. As well as the use of the Remington shotgun in the
breeching role.

Vincent sports a very unique sidearm. Like his primary rifle this is a unique weapon believed to the Colt Officers. This
compact weapon is chambered in .45acp and holds 6 rounds. Following Vincents unique style it also is sporting some
nice ivory handguards.

Some cameos during the hotel scene.

The FBI officer is shown sporting a Glock. Most likely the Glock 17 or similar model. In addition when the Swat team
moves in we catch a glimpse of the venerable MP5.
