MESSAGE FROM MRS. KENNAUGH

We have a lot of medications in our office that are
dispensed to students each day. If your child has
medication at school, whether prescription or over-the-
counter, please be sure to pick up his/her medication by
June 12. In planning for the 2014-15 school year, we will
be unable to accept medications on the first day of
school. However, our office opens on August 18 (with
varied hours), so please call the office (517-925-5480) to
schedule a time to bring the medications into school prior
to the first day of class for students. Thank you!

With the 2013-14 school year coming to a close, we are
experiencing a few staffing changes for next year. Our
staff is bidding a fond farewell to Mrs. Winters, our
fabulous music teacher, who is retiring after many years of
service to Grand Ledge students. Mrs. Starrak, our third
grade teacher who has been on leave this year, is resigning
to stay home with her growing family; Ms. Edwards, one
of our resource teachers, is leaving us for other
professional opportunities. And, Mrs. Smith is returning
to first grade after teaching third grade this year.

Backpacks are allowed the last day of school, but we ask
that your child bring his/her bag to school empty. Thank
you for your assistance!

Thank you to all of our volunteers who helped in
our building throughout the year! Whether you
assisted in the classroom, chaperoned field trips, or
volunteered to work our PTO-sponsored events, we
couldnt have had such a successful year without
your help. Thank you for your dedication to our
Beagle students!

There are plenty of studies that indicate students can
lose weeks, or sometimes even months, of academic
growth over the summer. Research has shown that
summer reading is as effective as summer tutoring;
that is, if children read consistently over the
summer, they are far less likely to lose the gains
they have made in the previous school year. As
such, it is imperative that our Beagle students read,
read, read this summer. Please help us in setting
your student up for success for next year!

With summer vacation
approaching, I want to encourage
you to continue collecting Box
Tops throughout the summer. This
is an easy, yet effective way to
raise money for our school. Our
PTO makes sure the Box Tops get turned in so that
we can get credit for them. Thank you for
supporting us!

Our staff would like to wish you all a wonderful,
safe summer!

Mrs. Dawn Kennaugh, Principal

TH
GRADE PARENTS

If your child is going to be in 6
th
grade next year now is
the perfect time to set up their appointment to get their
immunizations. Usually our 6
th
grade students are due to
get their next DTAP/TDAP (tetanus, diphtheria &
pertussis) and the new Meningococcal vaccine. These
immunizations are required by the State of Michigan for
school age children. Thank you.
SCHOOL YEARBOOK INFORMATION

If your student did not order a yearbook at the
beginning of the year, you can still order one online
at geskusphoto.com. Additionally, if you ordered a
yearbook and did not receive one, please give them
a call at 1-800-473-3885.

LAST MINUTE NEWS

Elementary 1:1 iPads
Some of you have been asking about our 1:1 iPads in K
and first grade. The recent bond election would have
allowed us to provide an iPad to every elementary
student. With the failure of the bond to pass we will
continue to jump start technology with our youngest
students, however there will not be 1:1 iPads above 1
st

grade until a potential future successful bond election.

2014-15 School Calendar
The 2014-15 school calendar is now available on the
Grand Ledge Public Schools website. One thing you
will notice is that there is something new!
Approximately once each month there is a 2-hour
delayed start. On those days we will follow the same
schedule as we do when there is a 2-hour weather delay.
These delayed starts were added to the school calendar
this year in order to provide time for teachers to work
together analyzing data and using that data to plan their
instruction.
