1. GENERAL

4. PILE CONSTR#CTION
4.1 E)ca*ation
(+e Contractor s+all ensure t+at t+e $et+od of construction pre.ents collapse, ingress of conta$inants and
$aterial falling in fro$ t+e surface. If te$porar! steel casing is used for t+is purpose, an! +oles 1ored prior to
placing t+e casing in position s+all 1e drilled -it+ a 1it not $ore t+an 2' $$ larger t+an t+e outside dia$eter of
t+e casing.
Ser.ices or ad<acent structures s+all not 1e da$aged 1! t+e piling operations. A+ere percussion e#uip$ent is
used, t+e le.el of energ! per 1lo- of t+e drilling 1it s+all 1e ;ept to t+e $ini$u$ consistent -it+ effecti.e 1oring,
so as to $ini$ise .i1ration, and a.oid da$age to ad<acent piles, structures or ser.ices.
At t+e co$pletion of e9ca.ation and prior to placing concrete, a &OL' POINT s+all appl!.
4.! Protection of A+,acent Pi-e
(+e Contractor s+all ensure t+at t+e pile construction process does not result in da$age to ad<acent ne-l! cast
piles due to ground .i1ration. (+e follo-ing $ini$u$ re#uire$ents s+all also 1e $et:

4.4 Concrete P-acement
Piles s+all 1e concreted -it+in 24 +ours of co$pletion of t+e pile e9ca.ation. In t+e e.ent t+at t+is is not ac+ie.ed,
t+e Contractor s+all rea$ t+e -alls and t+e 1ase of t+e pile to re$o.e not less t+an 2' $$ t+ic;ness of $aterial
and an! ot+er foundation $aterial -+ic+ +as softened in t+at ti$e.
Concreting s+all 1e a continuous process fro$ t+e toe le.el of t+e pile to t+e top of t+e pile suc+ t+at no .oids or
de1ris are left in t+e s+aft and t+e re#uired concrete co$paction is ac+ie.ed -it+out segregation of aggregate or
ingress of conta$inants. (+e reinforce$ent s+all 1e fir$l! positioned so t+at it does not $o.e during concrete
place$ent and is full! surrounded 1! t+e specified co.er of sound concrete. (+e surface of t+e concrete s+all 1e in
inti$ate contact -it+ t+e surrounding ground.
If te$porar! casting is 1eing used and concrete is 1eing placed 1elo- t+e -ater ta1le, t+e $ini$u$ +eig+t of
concrete -it+in t+e casing s+all 1e ad<usted to ensure t+at -ater is not per$itted to enter fro$ outside t+e casing.
(+e soil pressure at t+e toe of t+e casing s+all 1e 1alanced 1! t+e $ass of t+e concrete -it+in t+e casing. (+e free

Acceptance criteria, super.ision and reporting of integrit! testing s+all 1e in accordance -it+ t+e re#uire$ents of
AS 21'4.
3nless specified ot+er-ise, integrit! testing s+all 1e carried out on all piles.
6.! Loa+ tetin0
(+e Contractor s+all carr! out d!na$ic testing of piles to confir$ t+at design pile capacit! +as 1een ac+ie.ed. At
least one d!na$ic load test s+all 1e perfor$ed for e.er! %0 piles. Additional d!na$ic load testing s+all also 1e
carried out on piles in t+e e.ent t+at pile toe le.els .ar! 1! $ore t+an 2 $etres fro$ t+e test pile. (esting s+all 1e
carried out 1! use of a Pile 2ri.ing Anal!ser /P2A0 and t+e data o1tained fro$ eac+ pile s+all 1e anal!sed using
CAPAAP, (BCAADE or ot+er appro.ed e#ui.alent soft-are.
Additional load testing re#uire$ents /including static load tests0 $a! 1e specified in t+e Contract Specific
Requirement or on t+e 2ra-ings.
