1- Introduction
This lab has two main aim and they are: to determine the meter coefficient for a
Venture Meter and an Orifice Meter and to determine the head loss for each
meter and in sequence is possible to observe how to reach these objectives.
The apparatus used on the lab was the TecQuipment HI0 Flow-Measuring as shown
on the image below.

2- Procedure
With the equipment connected to the hydraulic bench open the apparatus valve
until the rotameter shows a readings of 10 mm approx. Record the flow rate and
each of the manometer readings. Repeat this procedure for a number of
equidistant values of the rotameter up to a maximum reading of 220 mm
approx. Using the meter equation determine the theoretical flow rates for the
manometer readings recorded for both the venture meter and orifice meter. Plot
a graph of actual flow rate versus theoretical flow rate and determine the meter
coefficient for each meter. Also plot a graph of head loss for the meter versus
flow rate.

3- Readings:
Volume Time(s) A(mm) B(mm) E(mm) F(mm)
40 85 114 95 115 95
80 52 128 86 16 76
120 39 152 68 148 50
160 29 183 48 175 15
200 23 230 18 22 -40
4- Theory:
Venturi equation:

Orifice equation:

5- Calculations:
First, calculate the cross section area on the points of reading and for that the
equation below is needed
A: cross section area; D: diameter of the cross section area

0,0002011 m
Area
Section Diameter Area (m)
A 0,026 0,0005309
B 0,016 0,0002011
E 0,051 0,0020428
F 0,02 0,0003142

Qa: is the ratio of volume by time
Qtv: is the theorical flow rate for a venture meter and It is calculated by the
formula above from theory
Qto: is the theorical flow rate for an orifice meter, and it is calculated by the
formula above from theory
As an example, a volume of 80L:
Volume Time A B
80 52 128 86

0,000419 m/s
Admit K=0.601
Continuing with an example of 80L:
Volume E F
80 126 76

6- Graphs
With the values on the table below,
Volume Time(s) A(mm) B(mm) E(mm) F(mm)

40 85 114 95 115 95 0,470588 0,000419 0,000407
80 52 128 86 126 76 1,538462 0,000623 0,000834
120 39 152 68 148 50 3,076923 0,000882 0,000901
160 29 183 48 175 15 5,517241 0,000871 0,001151
200 23 230 18 220 -40 8,695652 0,001401 0,001467

7- Conclusion
As it is possible to see on the graphics above the objectives was reached. With
the graphic it is possible to see that the meter coefficient is the linear coefficient
of the linear function, and for the venture we have 5133,4 and for the orifice we
have 4534,6.
