Install/reinstall Operating system in a personal computer

In a new computer, there are nothing installed in the harddisk, so to make the computer useful, we first
need to install an Operating system.
For a computer, which operating system is crashed of malfunctions occur, or is attacked by viruses, then
we can reinstall the operating system by formatting the disk drive in which previous OS is installed.
For the cases when antiviruses could not delete all the viruses from the disk drives, we have to format
all the disk drives by saving the important data in external storage devices.
For simple problems, we can repair the installed operating system rather than formatting its hard disk.
To install/reinstall/repair the OS, we have to boot the computer from bootable CD/DVD/Flash drives.
1. To boot from CD/DVD/Flash drive we first need to make the computer boot from CD/DVD/Flash
drive. For this, start the computer by pressing power button on CPU. Immediately start pressing
DEL key of F2 key from the keyboard to enter the BIOS setup.
I. Go to BOOT menu in the BIOS
II. Under BOOT Device Priority, select CD/DVD/Flash drive as First boot device
III. Press F10 function key from keyboard to save and exit the BIOS.
The Computer Restarts. After restart, a message is displayed as: Press any key to boot from CD...
2. Press any key from keyboard to boot from CD/DVD/Flash drive
Windows setup will start
After a while "Welcome to setup" screen will appear, and three options are given there
I. To setup Windows XP, Press Enter
II. To repair Windows XP installation using recovery console, Press R
III. To quit setup without installing Windows XP, Press F3
3. Press Enter to Continue setup
4. Windows XP Licensing Agreement page will display, press F8 to agree
5. On the next screen there are two options
I. To repair the selected windows XP installation, Press R
II. To continue installation fresh copy of windows XP without repairing, Press Esc
6. Press Esc to continue installation of Fresh copy of windows.
7. On the next screen you will see the information as given below
The following list shows the existing partitions and unpartitioned space on this computer.
Use up and down arrow keys to select item in the list.
To setup Windows XP on the selected item, Press Enter
To create partition in the un-partitioned space, press C
To delete the selected partition, Press D
8. To delete the partitions, press D
9. To confirm the deletions of the partition Press Enter and Press L
You can delete all partitions or delete selected only
After the deletion, the deleted partitions are seen as unpartitioned space.
10. To create new partition on the unpartitioned space, press C by selecting the unpartitioned
space.
11. To create partition, Enter the required size for the partition and press Enter
12. After creating the partitions, select C: drive and press Enter to set up windows XP in C drive
13. On the next screen you will see partition need to be formated. Select the formatting option seen
as Format the parition using NTFS files system.
14. After Formatting is completed do nothing while setup is copying files.
The computer restarts after it finishes copying files.
15. Installing Windows Screen appears. (Setup wiil complete in approximately in 39 minutes)
16. After a while, a dialog box is opened with the message to enter product key for windows XP

17. Enter the owener's name and his/her organization's name and press next.
18. Select the timezone as Kathmandu (GMT+05:45), Press next
19. Then do nothing untill the installation process completes
20. After Finishing the installation the computer restarts.
After formatting and installing windows XP computer restarts or starts with few device drivers such as
keyboard, mouse,monitor etc. The display will not be perfect, Computer produces no sound at all, t can
not be connected to the network etc. For all these we need to install respective device driver softwares.
For Device dirvers, insert the Mother board CD. and install from there.
