Sean Thomson 300 at South Levittown
PUYALLUP, Wash. - On his way
to winning his 21st PBA Regional
title competing in Puyallup,
Wash., PBA Hall of Famer Parker
Bohn III of Jackson, N.J., rolled
the highest eight-game series in
United States
Bowling Congress
history.
Bohn rolled
games of 267, 278,
300, 300, 289, 258,
279 and 258 for a
2,229 series in the
round-robin match
play portion of the
PBA Chevrolet
Northwest Open at
Daffodil Bowl. He
averaged 278.62 in
breaking the USBC
overall record of 2,203 set by
womens hall of famer Tish
Johnson in Panorama City, Calif.,
in 1990. Bohn said he had one
open frame in the series an
unconverted 7-10 split and actu-
ally lost one of his eight matches.
The series is certified by USBC
under the PBAs blanket-certifica-
tion program, but PBA scoring
records involve PBA Tour and
PBA50 Tour events only; the PBA
doesnt track
records for regional
compet i t i on. The
PBA Tour 8-game
record is the oldest
scoring record
remaining in the
PBA record book: a
2,165 bowled by the
late Billy Hardwick
in the 1968 Japan
Cup.
Bohn, who was in
the area on a busi-
ness trip, used his
stunning series to run away from
Blaine Weninger of Happy Valley,
Ore., by 469 pins for the Puyallup
title, finishing with a 16-game
total of 4,495 pins, including
match play bonus pins.

8-Game Series Record
SHAWNEE, Okla. Sean Rash of
Montgomery, Ill., started the Professional
Bowlers Association Wolf Open with the
PBAs 23rd nationally-televised 300 game
and continued his strike barrage in winning
his eighth career title in the opening event of
Oklahomas Grand Casino Resort PBA
Summer Swing at the Grand Event Center.
The first of five PBA Summer Swing
events aired on CBS Sports Network.
Rash, the 2011-12 PBA Player of the Year,
threw 37 strikes out of a possible 48 attempts
in defeating Chris Loschetter, 300-236;
Martin Larsen, 225-221; Mike Fagan of Fort
Worth, Texas, 241-214, and top qualifier
Chris Barnes of Double Oak, Texas, 238-
179, in the title match. Rash won $10,000
plus a $10,000 bonus for his televised 300
game.
It seems like forever (since my last title in
the U.S.), but its only been two years since
I won the Tournament of Champions, Rash
said. Winnings everything. It doesnt matter if its
in a parking lot in Alaska or wherever.
Rash spoiled Loschetters 34th birthday when he
threw his perfect game at the Avon, Ohio, resident
and defending Wolf Open champion in the first
match. It was the first nationally-televised perfect
game since Barnes threw a 300 game at Rash and
Australias Jason Belmonte in an elimination match in
the 2011 PBA Shark Open finals during PBA World
Series of Bowling III at South Point in Las Vegas.
I was a little nervous because I had the front eight
(strikes) a few years ago in Medford (Ore.) and Ive
had a few other chances, Rash said. You just want to
make a good shot to give yourself a chance. It was a
great feeling, one of those youll never forget.
In the second match, an unconverted 4-6-7 split by
Swedens Larsen in the sixth frame allowed Rash to
stay close, and a 4 pin on Larsens first shot in the 10th
frame gave Rash a chance to win. Working on a strike
in the ninth frame, Rash added three more in the 10th
frame for a come-from-behind 225-221 victory.
All you can ask for in situations like that is a
chance, Rash said. If (Larsen) strikes on that first
shot in the 10th, my day is over. But I still had to dou-
ble. You just have to put yourself in the right frame of
mind. You have to go through the process because
once you let go of the ball, you have no control over
the end result. Fortunately it turned out the right way
for me.
In the semifinal match, Fagan struggled with pin
carry, throwing only three strikes in the first eight
frames while Rash struck on eight of his first nine
shots on his way to a 241-214 victory. In the title
match, Rash continued to pound the pocket while
Barnes never built any momentum.
Fagan and (Larsen) both threw urethane balls and I
think it backfired on them, Rash noted. They didnt
have the hold and the look they had in the preliminary
round at FireLake (Bowling Center, where preliminary
rounds were contested). I think if Barnes had a re-do,
hed probably throw a different ball, but the ball he
threw (at FireLake) got him into the lead and he ran
away from the field. He has a lot of confidence in that
ball.
While Rashs strikes were key to his victory, the
deciding factor actually was his spare shooting. He
had only two open frames in four games one a split,
one a chopped 6-10 spare attempt.
With his win in the Wolf Open, Rash claimed the
first berth in the Oklahomas Grand Casino Resort
King of the Swing special event that will conclude the
Summer Swing.

SEATTLE The Professional Bowlers Association
and Japan Bowling Promotions have jointly made an
historic agreement that will create the first PBA
International Regional program, a series that will
serve as a qualifying system for the DHC Japan
World Challenge in January, 2015.
The first events, the PBA Japan Womens DHC
Cheetah Open and PBA Japan DHC Cheetah Open
for men and women, will be held July 5 and 6,
respectively, at Tokyo Port Bowl in Tokyo.
I am very excited, said Japan Bowling
Promotions Managing Director Shinichiro Kinoshita.
This program has been a goal since we formed our
company five years ago. It is a huge leap forward for
the sport of bowling.
The cultivation of very high level competition that
will help develop world-class bowling talent around
the globe has always been a goal of the PBA, said
PBA Commissioner Tom Clark. This landmark pro-
gram is an example of how cooperation at the highest
levels can produce great results for the international
bowling community.
The inaugural PBA Japan Regional series will
include eight tournaments six sponsored by DHC
Corporation, Japans largest skincare product compa-
ny and two events with multiple sponsors and two
with multiple sponsors. Five of the events will be for
men, three for women. All of the tournaments will
involve qualifying for the 2015 DHC Japan World
Challenge, a PBA International Tour event that will
feature an estimated $225,000 prize fund for its
mens and womens divisions next January.
All of the PBA Japan Regional events will be con-
tested on PBA animal pattern lane conditions, pro-
viding international players an opportunity to experi-
ence the same lane conditioning patterns that are used
in PBA Tour competition in the United States. The
regionals will be open to any bowler who cares to enter.
The regional format will be: one-day events start
with two squads bowling eight qualifying games. The
top 14 per squad will bowl two more qualifying
games with the top eight per squad bowling two addi-
tional games. The top four per squad will then
advance to single-elimination match play to deter-
mine winners. Each regional will feature an estimat-
ed $20,000 prize fund. The top four men and top two
women based on competition points at the end of the
regional series will automatically qualify for the
DHC Japan World Challenge.
We have held numerous meetings with the PBA
over the past six months to establish this tour,
Kinoshita said. We have faced many twists and
turns, but we have solved problems along the way
and the PBA has given us the go-ahead.
We want to provide our Japanese athletes with an
opportunity to look beyond Japan to world-wide tour-
naments, Kinoshita continued. We hope to create a
hero who will attract more news media coverage and
build our reputation.
We thank our sponsors, the Japan bowling centers
that have supported us, the Japan bowling industry
and the PBA for working hard to help us achieve this
goal. Without their cooperation, we could not have
accomplished this program.
Clark and PBA Deputy Commissioner Kirk Von
Krueger, who spearheaded the project, will attend the
July 12-13 Womens DHC Chameleon Open and
DHC Chameleon Open at Sound Bowl in Ushiku, a
Tokyo suburb.

Youth Travelers Greg Kahn 657,
Frank Magyar 643 at Lodi Lanes
By Vince Albrecht
LODI, NJ - A busy afternoon at Lodi Lanes with day two of the BCYBA
Scholarship Tournament on one side of the house and the Stan Niemiec Youth
Travel League on the other. The latter produced nine 600 sets, led by two-
handed righty Greg Khan 198-202-257-657 whose Bowler City III quartet
dropped a nail-biting, highly competitive contest, 2932-2928, to Bowler City II.
Teammate Nick Reyes held his 202+ average with games of 225-203 and
Tiffany Sucero was well above average, posting 187-182. Surviving the three-
point finale, 1005-992, BC II benefited from stellar scores from Alex Vorhees
224-611, Brittany Hovan 222-209, Joe Biondi 219 and Arielle Wallace 186-183.
Combining the efforts of high school powerhouses Indian Hills and Pompton
Lakes players, Holiday stormed its way to this years championship with a con-
vincing 5-2 triumph over Bowler City I, blasting four 600s in the process:
Frank Magyar 246-225-643, Alex McGuire 222-222-631, thirteen-year-old
Ryan McGuire 227-212-622 and Nick Cilento 221-213-610. The BC I squad,
which dropped to third place, were led by Vin Santoro 210-199 and Anthony
Rizzo 198.
In another position encounter, Boonton leap-frogged into second place, sweep-
ing seven points from Montvale with a booming 3094, the leagues high handi-
cap threesome; the entire squad was significantly over average, notably thirteen-
year-old Peter Hancock and Montville junior Randy Devitt who came through
with personal season best outings. Peter fired a huge 841 handicap set with his
first 600+, 224-215-192-631 and Randy had 234, his high league single.
Rounding out Boontons solid effort were Matt ODea 213-201 and Sean
McGuire 206. Pacing Montvale were ten-year-old Joseph Hammer Mahoney
with 192, Kyle Ladewig with a pair of 181 games, Dan Sproviero a 176 and
continued notable improvement from eleven-year-old Michaella Raab with a
+31 score of 160.
Hawthorne freshman Steve Plaszky fired the days only triple deuce set, 203-
212-218-633 and twelve-year-old Hunter Perry added 213-204-605 as Fair
Lawn won five of seven points from Lodi, 2819-2777. Lodis best came from
Chris Navarro 223-193 and eleven-year-old Louis Ferrante 192.
