Guided since our founding in 1912 by the missionary vision of the Paulists committed to the mission of J esus, and dedicated to be welcoming to all, we, the community of St. Philip Neri, strive to reach out, to reconcile and to promote unity for all Gods creation through worship, education, and service toward the common good. HOLY TRINITY June 15, 2014
WHAT IS HOLY TRINITY? This week we celebrate Holy Trinity. The Trinity is the term employed to signify the central doctrine of the Christian religion the truth that in the unity of the Godhead there are Three Persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These Three Persons being truly distinct one from another. Thus, in the words of the Athanasian Creed: "the Father is God, the Son is God, and the Holy Spirit is God, and yet there are not three Gods but one God." In this Trinity of Persons the Son is begotten of the Father by an eternal generation, and the Holy Spirit proceeds by an eternal procession from the Father and the Son.

Pastoral Corner
We are Trinity and more. Today is the Feast of the Holy Trinity. It is also Fathers Day. The Trinity, One God, Three Divine Persons. Each Person completely and fully God, Divine. Not three gods, just one. For centuries we have been trying not only to define God, but to understand the definition we have come up with. This conundrum can give us a clue to how we can bring our faith into daily life. A dad, and many persons: lover, comforter, plumber, cook, artist, fixer, mender, wanderer, dreamer, you can add your own list of roles. Maybe this day should be Humans Day for all of us, mothers or fathers, sisters and brothers; aunts, uncles and neighbors are all roles for those of us who call ourselves human. We dont cease being human as we tend a cut or scrape, cook diner or shop for groceries, we are one person doing all of this. Lets add one more quality to our Humanness, our Divine DNA, our life of faith that pervades every aspect of our life as believers. Our Divine DNA is with us no matter where we are or what we are doing. Someone once said that we do not have a soul, we are a soul, we have a body. It is our soul that animates all that we do, it is our soul that is connected to God, our soul that makes us lovable and approachable, that allows us to experience, even create, deep beauty, love and compassion. We, mothers, fathers, or whatever, are more than just individual persons. We are part of something much larger. St. Francis once said I am Gods creature, of Him I am part, I feel His love awakening my heart. Gods Divine DNA permeates every single atom, in every single moment; in everything we see, hear and touch all is one, The One. I believe we spend a lot of time looking for additives, something that will make us feel good, or important, loved, needed or wanted. It isnt out there it is in here. We need no additives. What we need us to uncover, discover with wealth of Gods DNA within us. It is easy to define God, to chop and dissect then argue about it all for centuries on end. It seems to keep religious institutions going. What is really awe inspiring, what causes us to tremble and fall to our knees is to realize what the psalmist wrote God is closer to us than we are to ourselves. There is no distance between us and God, only the superficial barriers we erect in our minds. Today is Fathers Day and we are all fathers and mothers, sisters and brothers, humans all. Today is the Feast of the Holy Trinity and we are Trinity and more for we all share in the Divine DNA.
Fr. Michael E Evernden, CSP
STEWARDSHIP CORNER Stewards of the Church: Stewards of Gods gifts are not passive beneficiaries. As stewards of the Church we are all called to collaborate and cooperate with God in continuing the redemptive work of Jesus, which is the Churchs essential mission. All members have their own roles to play: 1) parents who nurture their children in the light of faith; 2) parishioners who work in concrete ways to make their parishes true communities of faith and vibrant sources of service to the larger community; 3) all Catholics, who give generous support of time, talents and treasure, prayers and personal service -- according to their circumstances to parish and diocesan programs and to the universal Church.
NEWCOMER DINNER We invite any new parishioners to our Newcomer Dinner which will take place on Saturday, June 21st at 5pm. We want to welcome any new families, couples, or new neighbors to this event. Invite friends and come meet the Priests and Parish staff. We look forward to meeting you! Please call the Parish office and let us know you are coming: 503-231-4955.
ROSARY DONATIONS What do you do with all of those unsolicited religious items like medals, rosaries, note pads, and Holy cards? If you arent going to use them, we can use them not only for the children in our parish but for the people facing personal challenges. If you want to donate them to the parish, please bring them to Mass with you and place them in the box in the foyer on the shelf marked religious items --- and thank you for sharing.
