3.0 INTRODUCTION
Expert Group (EG) is an initiative of Student Representative Council of Universiti Teknologi
PETRONAS (MPPUTP) in corresponding to one of Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP)
mission which is to produce well-rounded graduates who are creative and innovative with the
potential to become leaders of industry and the nation.
The problem observed in UTP is that more and more students are adapting the habit of
ignorance. They do not participate in extra activities after lectures hour and mingle in the
same circle of people. As a result students are lacking in soft skills such as communication
skills, interpersonal skills, team work and others. These skills cant be gained by just
attending classes and completing the 5 years of studies. Students need to interact with
others from various backgrounds to develop and enhance their skills.
Expert Group (EG) is designed especially for people within the Student Representatives
Council organization. Each group consisting two Exco and Rakan exco is given a research
to be completed in specific time duration. This is to develop Rakan Exco critical thinking
ability, problem solving and decision making capability. At the same time, each group will
complies with a structured syllabus. EG is also designed to provide Rakan Exco with extra
knowledge which mainly focuses in shaping a competence student leader. In achieving
these objectives, each EG must comply with the structured syllabus. The syllabus is very
important to make sure that every EG covers all topics and all Rakan Exco will be equally
exposed to the selected topics.
Expert Group is a platform of learning. There are two main purposes of Expert Group. Firstly,
it acts as a medium of knowledge sharing and transfer. Secondly, it is to generate critical
thinking style among the student leaders.
It is hope that expert group can be a good platform in overcoming the ignorance habit and
obstacles in attaining soft skills. Starting within the organization, it is SRCUTP dreams to
create a professional environment by grooming Rakan Exco to be compatible enough to lead
the organization in future.
