Despite what most people think Mechanical Engineering is not all about machines or automobile

mechanics ! While it does cover those areas it also covers topics like air crafts, combustion, energy
generation, structures, and many other interesting subjects. In general you can expect to be exposed
to heavy mathematics and physics for the first two years. You will study Statics, Dynamics, Thermo
Dynamics, Mechanical Design, Heat Transfer, and some other courses depending on the college you
go to. You will also be exposed to some basic courses from other engineering principles like
electrical, Material Science and so on.
You also have some elective courses that you get to chose from a variety of courses, and you can
make the decision based on what you like most.
Engineers in this field design, test, build, and operate machinery of all types; they also work on a
variety of manufactured goods and certain kinds of structures. The field is divided into (1) machinery,
mechanisms, materials, hydraulics, and pneumatics; and (2) heat as applied to engines, work and
energy, heating, ventilating, and air conditioning. The mechanical engineer, therefore, must be trained
in mechanics, hydraulics, and thermodynamics and must be fully grounded in such subjects as
metallurgy and machine design. Some mechanical engineers specialize in particular types of
machines such as pumps or steam turbines. A mechanical engineer designs not only the machines
that make products but the products themselves, and must design for both economy and efficiency. A
typical example of the complexity of modern mechanical engineering is the design of an automobile,
which entails not only the design of the engine that drives the car but also all its attendant accessories
such as the steering and braking systems, the lighting system, the gearing by which the engine's
power is delivered to the wheels, the controls, and the body, including such details as the door latches
and the type of seat upholstery.
Mechanical engineering is a discipline of engineering that applies the principles of
engineering, physics and materials science for analysis, design, manufacturing, and maintenance
of mechanical systems. It is the branch of engineering that involves the production and usage
of heat and mechanical power for the design, production, and operation of machines and tools.

It is
one of the oldest and broadest engineering disciplines.
The engineering field requires an understanding of core concepts
including mechanics, kinematics, thermodynamics, materials science, structural analysis,
and electricity. Mechanical engineers use these core principles along with tools like computer-aided
engineering, and product lifecycle management to design and analyze manufacturing plants,
industrial equipment and machinery, heating and cooling
systems, transport systems, aircraft, watercraft, robotics, medical devices, weapons, and others.
Mechanical engineering emerged as a field during the industrial revolution in Europe in the 18th
century; however, its development can be traced back several thousand years around the world.
Mechanical engineering science emerged in the 19th century as a result of developments in the field
ofphysics. The field has continually evolved to incorporate advancements in technology, and
mechanical engineers today are pursuing developments in such fields as composites, mechatronics,
and nanotechnology. Mechanical engineering overlaps with aerospace engineering, metallurgical
engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, petroleum engineering, manufacturing
engineering, chemical engineering, and other engineering disciplines to varying amounts. Mechanical
engineers may also work in the field of Biomedical engineering, specifically
with biomechanics, transport phenomena, biomechatronics, bionanotechnology and modeling of
biological systems, like soft tissue mechanics.
There are two ways we can produce electricity from the sun:
Photovoltaic Electricity This method uses photovoltaic cells that absorb the direct sunlight just
like the solar cells you see on some calculators.
Solar-Thermal Electricity This also uses a solar collector: it has a mirrored surface that
reflects the sunlight onto a receiver that heats up a liquid. This heated liquid is used to make
steam that produces electricity.
As light hits the solar panels, the solar radiation is converted into direct current electricity (DC).
The direct current flows from the panels and is converted into alternating current (AC) used by
local electric utilities. Finally, the electricity travels through transformers, and the voltage is
boosted for delivery onto the transmission lines so local electric utilities can distribute the
electricity to homes and businesses.
Solar collectors capture and concentrate sunlight to heat a synthetic oil called therminol, which
then heats water to create steam. The steam is piped to an onsite turbine-generator to produce
electricity, which is then transmitted over power lines. On cloudy days, the plant has a
supplementary natural gas boiler. The plant can burn natural gas to heat the water, creating
steam to generate electricity
