Descriptive Essay

C. Describing a place
The neighbourhood where you grew up

A park is a large public garden or area of land used for recreation. It can be in its
natural or semi-natural state, or planted, and is set aside for human enjoyment or for the
protection of wildlife or natural habitats. It may consist of rocks, soil, water, flora and fauna
and grass areas, but may also contain buildings and other artefacts such as playgrounds. Parks
are usually crowded because they are good place to go to, and the parks sceneries are very
beautiful. You can see a lot of old people in parks because they love the parks fresh air. Old
people like fresh air and that is why you can see a lot of them in the parks. However, parks
are not only for old people, but young people as well. They are a nice place for people to
relax themselves, and you can also have a picnic there. You will surely have a good time.
One of my favourite things to do before starting my day is to take a jog in my local
park. My mind will be cleared, and I will be able to face whatever may happen that day.
Jogging in the park during early hours opens up opportunities to see different scenes and
portraits and open my mind to a new perspective.
I can still remember my childhood very much. I lived in a town named Taman Ungku
Tun Aminah in Johor Bahru where I past my childhood. I was always jogging in a park
neared to my house named Silent Hill with my parent every weekend. Every time when I was
standing at the entrance of the park, the icy breeze made me shivered. The grassland looked
like a green ocean. I could feel the softness of it like touching a blanket. I can relax my tired
eyes when I was staring at the green ocean of grassland. Every time when I closed my eyes
and took a long, deep breath, fresh air went into my nose and filled my lungs. Trees are not
only the residents, but also the guardians of park. Those trees had around triple of an adults
height. Fallen leaves piled up under trees. They formed various patterns like the mysterious
pictures we saw in dreams. Human might treat withered leaves as litter but for trees, they
treasured them since fallen leaves supplied the indispensible nutrients. Trees grew up and
leaves fell. We called this the cycle of life.
The trail brought us to a peace resting place. Alongside the curving trail, there is an
empty, wooden bench came into sight. However, I saw an old couple sat on the bench. I met
them every weekend. In my opinion, they must be the regular customer of the park. The
gentleman always wore a white jacket and sky blue trousers. He had tanned skin and white
hair like the snow. The old lady dressed in the same way of her husband. I can see they both
wore smiles like the new moon. Beyond the rest area I found a group of people was
practicing Tai Chi. Tai Chi is an internal Chinese martial art practised and it can prevent
or ease many ills of aging. In this low-impact, slow-motion exercise reminds me that human
should decelerate their pace of life.
After we had finished our jogging, my parent will bring me to the restaurant neared to
the park named Food Garden to have our breakfast. Every time I walk into the Food Garden I
obtain the best feeling. I always love to observe what is around me. There is a fountain
outside of the restaurant; the ripple of water formed a peaceful symphony. Each and every
smile of the employees have on their faces and the music playing, always makes me feel
relaxed. There are many countries of foods such as Malay, Chinese, Thailand, and many
more. The marble tiled floor beneath me gives the restaurant a clean appearance. All of the
foods are really delicious.
We always sat on the same seat next to the window because I like to observe the face
expression of every passerby, some looked happy but some looked sad. Observation on their
face expression became one of my entertainments to kill time for waiting my foods. They
have soft cushion seats that let my body sink right down in them. I always notice the good
atmosphere around me. I breathe in the aroma of the food when the food is brought and it
always reminds me of how hungry I am. The food was placed on a big white flower-patterned
plate. I like to use their silver Italian designed utensil to enjoy my delicious food. We went
back to our house after finished ours breakfast.
Many things happened in my childhood days, but I cannot remember all of them. I
was quite lucky enough to have such wonderful and beautiful memories that my parent gives
to me and the most important thing is I can still remember it now. These two places are really
meaningful to me. All my best memories were there and these are the neighbourhood where I
grew up. Now I moved and lived in a whole new and stranger place. I think I could never to
live like before.
