AQUASOFT WATER TREATMENT COMPOUNDS

AQUASOFT compounds are sodium salts of ORGANOPHOSPHONATES
They are versatile Speciality - Performance chemicals useful for various industrial
applications . These phosphonates are hydrolytically stable, environmentally
safe and are not affected by chlorine. The versatility of phosphonates makes
them cost effective & a superior replacement for other sequestrates and
allied chemicals. Various grades of AQUASOFT are available as white, free
flowing solid easily soluble in water or as aqueous solutions. Their chelation
value ( mg of CaCO
3
chelated per gm of AQUASOFT ) varies from 100 to
700, thus making them several fold effective than conventional Chelating
Agents such as Ethylene Diamine Tetra Acetic Acid ( E.D.T.A ), N.T.A and
Polyphosphates . AQUASOFT can be used in place of conventional chelating
agents without process modification for effectively removing calcium,
magnesium, iron , copper , and other heavy metal ions .

B O I L E R W A T E R T R E A T M E N T :

AQUASOFT is mainly used in Boilers to control any scale formation that
may take place on account of metal - ions in water on heat transfer
surfaces . An added advantage of using AQUASOFT is that it also helps to
remove any previously formed scale. It is compatible with other Boiler
treatment chemicals and its efficient oxygen scavenging action , before feed
water enters the boiler protects the Boiler from exposure to water / steam
and thus preventing corrosion .

AQUASOFT is resistant to degradation to orthophosphate under high
pressure and temperatures unlike Polyphosphates which revert to ortho -
phosphates. A striking feature of AQUASOFT is that it increases the fuel
efficiency of the Boiler & the life span of the Boiler Tubes .


B O T T L E W A S H I N G :

Prevents scale formation, prevents spotting and filming, decreases costly
downtime for descaling and allows no deposit build-up.

AQUASOFT is recommended as a trifunctional additive in conjunction with
gluconic acid for caustic bottle washing formulation.


C O O L I N G W A T E R T R E A T M E N T :

AQUASOFT inhibits typical scale in heat transfer areas due to CaCO
3
and
CaSO
4 .
Fouling by accumulation of suspended solids and corrosion products
is prevented . The main feature is the prevention & in turn inhibition of
Corrosion of the entire Cooling Equipment. Its inherent property of Biocide -
Activity to control growth of micro organisms saves on addition of other
Biocides .


C O S M E T I C S :

AQUASOFT is used to clear turbidity in solutions, to control trace metals
which tend to catalyze oxidation and color formation . To protect creams,
lotions, deodorants and similar cosmetic products against development of
rancidity discoloration, change of perfume, caking and breakdown of
emulsions . An added benefit is that it serves as a preservative .

D A I R Y :

It is used for cleaning dairy equipment to remove milk stones, lime deposits
etc. which cling to the equipment and form scale. A mixture of powerful
detergent along with AQUASOFT has pragmatic & observable economic
advantages .


D E T E R G E N T S & S O A P S :

In soap manufacture unless soft water is used there will be always some
formulation of insoluble magnesium and calcium soaps which have to be
removed. By incorporating a suitable amount of AQUASOFT in the soap
kettle before saponification begins will help in removing this defect .

AQUASOFT is added to avoid contamination of metallic ions, when liquid
soap and detergent are packed in tins or barrels.


L E A T H E R :

In leather industries a slight addition of AQUASOFT improves quality of
leather and also prevents cracking and other side effects.



O I L F I E L D W A T E R T R E A T M E N T :

AQUASOFT inhibits typical scale, assists in corrosion inhibition, resists
degradation in water, is compatible with other treatment chemicals, controls
iron fouling, is stable to acid or base, disperse existing solid, is soluble in
most brines, is insoluble in crude oil and is hydrolytically and thermally
stable .

AQUASOFT is unique in the combination of properties it offers. No other
class of compound gives such a wide range of secondary properties along
with threshold scale inhibition .

AQUASOFT is an effective dispersing agent and is particularly suited to
stabilize dissolved iron, another ancillary property.

P A I N T S :

In paints industries AQUASOFT increases the stability of the emulsion as
metal ions are inactivated .


P A P E R I N D U S T R Y :

Addition of AQUASOFT in the paper pulp helps removing discoloration of
paper by removal of metal cations. In paper industries AQUASOFT helps to
prevent the reddening of unbleached sulphite pulp. It is used for Stabilizing
Peroxide used for de - inking waste paper as a step of recycling . It also
reduces oxidation of cellulose .

AQUASOFT is a powerful new generation sequestering agent, which has a
very high stability at high temperature ( Stable unto 240

and effective over a wide range of pH. Due to its high performance and
cost effectiveness many leading process houses have accepted AQUASOFT
in place of conventional chelating agents such as E.D.T.A, N.T.A , and other
branded items


Textile P E R O X I D E B L E A C H

Depending upon the hardness of water, AQUASOFT when used in peroxide
bath gives superior whiteness to the cloth and also helps in avoiding scale
formation. The heavy metal ions in the water are chelated which otherwise
would lead to increase both the consumption of Peroxide and cause damage
to the fibers . The stabilization is improved by pre - treatment with
AQUASOFT . It reduces the catalytic decomposition of the bleaching agent
and the tendering of the fabric.

It stabilizes peroxide against oxygen loss, stabilizes peroxide baths against
silicate deposits . It improves bleaching performance thereby reducing
bleaching cost and improving the fabric quality .


Textile S C O U R I N G

Scouring process ( Pre-cleansing of Fibers ) in textile is used to remove
natural oils, spinning oils , dyes or stains through storage and transportation,
wax, grease, soil , etc. Due to metallic ions in water they form metallic
soaps, which deposit on fabric and give poor scouring and rough feel to the
cloth. In normal water 0.1% of AQUASOFT will help to overcome this
difficulty. In hard water quantity may have to be increased .

Textile D Y E I N G

The presence of trace metal ions in the dye liquor like copper and iron
which are dissolved in the dye liquor adversely affect shade and fastness of
many dyes. These metals or their salts gain access to the liquor from the
dyeing machine and feed lines , through the process water or steam ,
through the textile material itself or through other dyes . Thus, they can
diminish the exhaustion of disperse dyes or cause changes in shades .

Use of 1 gm/lit to 2 gm/lit of AQUASOFT in dyeing of sulphur, vat dyes,
naphthol dyes and direct dyes are very useful in developing brighter and
cleaner shade with superior fastness. It is very useful in high temperature,
high pressure beam dyeing and jet dyeing to get brighter and cleaner shade
on the fabric. The feel of the fabric is also improved. The dye
consumption is also reduced considerably .


Textile M E R C E R I Z I N G

Iron in caustic lye gives yellow tint to the cloth. Use of AQUASOFT will
help in overcoming this problem. If the cloth after mercerizing is taken for
peroxide boil, iron acts as catalyst and thus due to oxidation, loss of tensile
strength or pin holes are formed in the fabric. AQUASOFT binds the iron
from the solution making it inactive.

C h l o r i n e S t a b i l i t y :
AQUASOFT does not contain nitrogen unlike E.D.T.A , D.T.P.A and N.T.A
which results in lower Chlorine Demand and hence no Chloramine
formation. Hence it can be used at higher concentrations of Chlorine in
Cooling Water Treatment to prevent algae growth .


H y d r o l y t i c S t a b i l i t y :
AQUASOFT is hydrolytically stable due to the presence of C - P Bond unlike
P - O - P Bonding in Polyphosphates . It therefore exhibits zero reversal
( does not hydrolyze ) to Ortho - Phosphates unlike Polyphosphates .
