Some people may say that during the Middle Ages, Europe experienced an awful time
!hough that may "e true since the #lac$ %lague did occur and it was harsh for the people
however, the Middle Ages had many achievements that changed society

!he Middle Ages were not truly dar$ !he Middle Ages developed system $now as the feudal
system !he feudal system was an o"ligation for all classes a people to give and receive &t was
"asically an economic system !his system was really helpful to the people "ecause they were
a"le to get what they needed from others !his is related to social hierarchy refers to your social
status and how close to the "ottom or the top that you ran$ 'or example in document (,
according to the feudal o"ligations chart, it shows how "oth classes, lords and vassals, gave to
one another !he vassals would give loyalty and military service and the lords would offer land
and protection !his shows how the people were a"le to get the resources they needed during
the Middle Ages !hat is one accomplishment that proves the middle ages were not truly dar$

Another reason the Middle Ages were not truly dar$ is "ecause there was a development of
learning during this time !his was very important to society "ecause it expanded their learning
and esta"lished multiple universities which "rought opportunities 'or example, according to the
universities chart founded in the 1(th through 1)th century, universities were esta"lished in
western europe during the middle ages !he chart shows how universities were founded in italy,
france, great "ritain, spain and portugal !here was a greater amount of universities founded in
germany, "ohemia, and the low countries !he middle ages are referred to *the +ar$ Ages,
which is said there was a loss of learning, however, !he middle ages esta"lished an a"undance
of learning for society !his proves the middle ages were not truly dar$

-astly, the Middle Ages were not truly dar$ due to the successes that occurred during this
time .f course the middle ages are referred to as *dar$, "ecause of the "lac$ plague !he
"lac$ plague was a horri"le time where many died of carried diseases due to the insanitation &
agree that it was harsh, however, that was /ust a time period that was then resolved so the
middle ages should not "e $nown as *dar$, !he "lac$ plague shouldn0t exclude all of the
achievements that happened during this time 'or example, According to 12 +avis, oxford
university press, 1934, the author descri"es were not truly dar$ as everyone "elieved 1e states
* Measure it "y the memories and the achievements that it has "e5ueathed to the modern
world, 1e explains that instead of loo$ing at the middle ages "y all the negatives, you should
loo$ at all the improvements "ecause at the end of the day, that is what matters

!hat is why the middle ages should not "e referred to as *dar$, Many improvements
happened such as development of learning, feudal system, and all successes which should "e
ac$nowledged during this time !hat is why the middle ages is not truly dar$
