Undiminished through the epochs, has been the quest to unravel the mystery of making.

Embedded in all our hearts is the deepest desire to achieve precision. Besides this, I believe that
acquisition of knowledge can never be a discrete achievement. It is the culmination of prolonged
effort and the prelude to further inquiry and study. It thrives in an academic ambience where I
wish to contribute my mite to the mighty miracles enabled by science in general and expand on
the efficiency, expounded exponentially by Production Engineering in particular. Inspired by this
goal, I am determined to acquire a Masters degree in Industrial Engineering.

It is this staunch desire that has driven me into exploring the archways in the palaces of clinical
perfection, streamlined to perform to optimal requirements. This inborn interest enabled me to
channelize my thoughts and delve into the realm of production engineering and management.
Filliped by my undergraduate schooling in mechanical engineering, where courses like Design of
Machine Elements, Production Techniques and Precision Engineering created a concrete
foundation to admire and appreciate the processes of design, manufacturing and assembly, my
interests were focused in wanting to realize the utopian environment with a perfect balance
struck between people, processes and plans.

Inspired by the experience gained in handling CNC machines and its limitless advantages
contrasted against the laborious, though satisfying, manual fabrication, my interests further
collimated in wanting to optimize production by controlling and monitoring its multitudinal facets
including inventory management, production scheduling and process planning. To satiate this
desire, I explored these avenues through courses like Optimization, Operations Research, and
Manufacturing Planning and Control. This helped hone my skills in mathematical and stochastic
modeling, fuelled by my innate inclination towards calculus and probability theory. The voracious
aptitude I had for these courses, reflected in my performance and my grade point, standing
currently at 8.83 on a scale of 10. Further testament to this fact is that my cumulative grade point
for the last year, wherein I completed these courses, is 9.63/10.

Greater impetus was added in this direction by the invaluable work experience I gained through
the course of an internship at Ford India Limited, Chennai, where I implemented a claims
reconciliation package to improve the efficiency of their operations. My motivation scaled new
heights when the package was enforced in all their dealerships across India. As a vital
supplement to this, will be the project effort I am due to undertake at the Indian Institute of
Technology Madras, under the esteemed guidance of Dr. Chandrasekaran Rajendran, Professor,
Department of Management Studies, the ends of which are aimed at optimizing the inventory
levels in the supply chain using Clonal Selection Algorithm (CLONALG).

The experience also helped me gain acquaintance with software tools like AutoCAD, ANSYS,
CATIA, besides proficiency in packages like MATLAB, MINITAB and MPL/ CPLEX. It also
directed me to expand my knowledge base to encompass Expert Systems and CAD/CAM. It is
this cascade that made me embark onto taking up the exploratory and expository projects that I
am currently doing, including Supply Chain Inventory Optimization using Meta Heuristics and
Analysis of Inventory Systems. These ventures have instilled in me a deep spirit of enquiry and a
desire to dedicate my life to research and learning.

My skills would certainly help me to face the industry as a well-equipped professional. Yet the
completeness in being molded as an engineer would be manifested in its totality, only after a
post graduation with a specific area of expertise. It is this height that your institution would help
me scale on account of its prolific faculty and facilities par excellence that can tune me to the
technological shifts, open opportunities to explore advanced engineering problems, besides
giving me the overwhelming pride of having worked with the best people, in my chosen line of
interest. To this end, the next and obvious step in my career would be to seek admission in a
university like yours, and pursue my Masters degree in Industrial Engineering with Production
Systems being the cornerstone of my course. This would help me contribute my little bit to this
ocean of knowledge, and master the art of procuring diligently and processing dexterously with a
singular end producing definitively, with adaptability to pulsating demand and synchronized to
existent and emerging technology.

The joy and satisfaction of knowing that what one is doing will ultimately enhance the quality of
life for humanity in general defies all description. The effort may be infinitesimal; but at times a
single step serves as a giant leap for mankind. What matters now is that I strive to achieve it. For
this I have to be committed to myself, to the society that has nurtured me and to the world that
holds forth so many possibilities. I am prepared to put in a great deal of effort. Here I could say
with the poet Robert Frost, I have promises to keep and miles to go before I sleep.
