The University of Amsterdams Institute for Dutch Language Education (INTT) offers semi-intensive and extensive Dutch language courses at six different levels to international UvA students and staff, as well as to other highly educated foreigners the whole year round.
Course levels Absolute beginners: For those with absolutely no knowledge of Dutch.
Beginners: For those who understand some Dutch, but are incapable of making themselves understood in the language.
Pre-Intermediate: For those who: have a global understanding of simple, everyday Dutch; can make themselves understood in simple, everyday Dutch.
Intermediate: For those who: have a reasonable understanding of everyday Dutch and of Dutch used in the media; can make themselves understood in simple, everyday Dutch.
Pre-Advanced: For those who: have a good understanding of everyday Dutch and of Dutch used in the media; can make themselves understood in everyday Dutch, but still make quite a few mistakes.
Advanced For those who: have a thorough understanding of everyday Dutch; have a good understanding of Dutch at an academic level; can express themselves in spoken and written Dutch in everyday and professional situations.
Intake No later than two weeks before the beginning of a course, the INTT organizes a meeting with new participants to assess their level of proficiency in Dutch.
Participants who pass the examination at the end of their course may continue with the course at the next level without assessment.
Classroom activities listening to audio fragments; watching video fragments; discussion of written texts; preparatory exercises for communicative tasks; studying Dutch grammar with follow- up exercises; speaking and writing exercises; conversation.
Location Lectures are given in the P.C. Hoofthuis, which is the main building of the Faculty of Humanities. This modern building is situated right in the heart of Amsterdam, is equipped with a large language laboratory and video and computer facilities, and offers all possibilities to integrate language and culture.

Fees The course fee covers access to the language laboratory. The course fee does not cover the textbooks.
