1 INTRODUCTION
1.1 Scope
This document is the User Manual (manual) for the KNX Server, developed and manufactured by Domatica
Global Solutions, SA.

Use this document to:
Get familiarize yourself with KNX Server.
Starting and create an iDom network based on existing KNX Sytems infrastructures.
Install and operate your KNX Server
Connect the KNX Server to a programming device equipped with iDom Project Builder software.
Interface the KNX Server with other iDom devices.

NOTE: Read and understand this document and all related documents before installing, operating, or
maintaining your device.

1.2 Qualified Personnel
Installation procedures must be carried out and inspected by qualified personnel. Qualified personnel are
those who, based on their training and experience, are capable of identifying risks and avoiding potential
hazards when working with this product

2 SAFETY INFORMATION
Read these instructions carefully, and look at the equipments to become familiar with the device before
trying to install, operate, or maintain it.

This manual contains notices you have to observe in order to ensure your personal safety, as well as to
prevent damage to property. The notices referring to your personal safety are highlighted in the manual by a
safety alert symbol. These notices shown below are graded according to the degree of danger.

Alert messages are shown below. The depicted triangle, meaningless by itself, is always filled with a symbol

DANGER, WARNING, CAUTION OR NOTICE

DANGER indicates a hazard or unsafe practice that will result in severe injury or death;
WARNING indicates a hazard or unsafe practice that could result in severe injury or death;
CAUTION indicates a hazard or unsafe practice that could result in injury;
NOTICE indicates an activity or practice that could result in damage to the device.

The symbol varies with the type of risk described

2.1 Intended use
Electronic devices are normally not failsafe. In the event of a failure on the iDom devices, the user is
responsible for ensuring that other devices that may be connected are made secure.

3 KNX SERVER
3.1 What is KNX Server
The KNX Server is an ultimate controller tool for the EIB/KNX system. DIN Rail based for easily installation, it
will interface with KNXnet/IP interface (not included) and use a free software tools (iDom Project) for
programming and configure it. The KNX Server will allow you to expand your KNX system to other dimension
that you never thought before.

KNXServer is a bridge from KNX world to other protocols, in one single platform on a simple way.

KNX Server acts as a bridge for those sub-systems, bringing them to the KNX installation in a seamless
way.

The KNX Server functions as a bridge to other protocols that brings huge opportunities and challenges
to the KNX integrators and users.

The KNX Server is in continuous development, so third party technologies integrations are constantly
increasing the system bridge possibilities.

KNX server currently supports the following protocols:
Modbus
DMX
Zigbee
iDom
X-10

Apart of such protocols the KNX Server provides six analog input (10 bits resolution) and six outputs ( three
Pulse witdh modulations and three analog outputs) for various applications.

3.2 How it works
3.2.1 Install
An easy installation at the Internet router allows you to communicate with your KNX installation.

The KNX Server is a DIN Rail based for easily installation. It connects to KNX-Bus through any interface that
supports KNXnet/IP Tunnelling.

3.2.2 Configure
KNX server is the simplest way to connect different technologies and protocols with a single integration.
Export the KNX project file on ETS Software to an ESF file so that can be used with iDom Project. This is a
free tool to configure and deploy your KNX Server system with unlimited possibilities. At this stage you can
cross programming between different supported protocols.

3.2.3 Plug and Play
KNX server with it's Plug & Play capabilities allows you to get instant integration with the whole installations.
You can control and monitor your installations just by downloading the application at the Google Play or App
Store.

4 INSTALLATION
Installation must take place according to the documentation, using suitable equipment and tools.
Devices must be installed without voltage applied and by qualified personnel.
General safety regulations and nationally applicable accident prevention guidelines must be
observed.
Electrical installation must be carried out according to the relevant guidelines
WARNING

The KNX Server use maximum of 24Volts DC. The KNX Server can be installed in electrical
control cabinets or in small distribution were hazard voltages are present. When installing observe
the risks and avoid potential hazards

The KNX Server can be installed in electrical control cabinets or in small distribution boards according the
DIN RAIL standard.

Installation detail on DIN rail

A typical installation of KNX can now integrate with other technologies with different protocols in a very
simplified way. KNX Server added to the existing installation allows you to connect to: System Bridge
Multi protocol.

4.3 RS232 & RS485 (6P6C, known as RJ11, RJ12, RJ14, RJ25)
The 6P6C modular connection provides serial communication over RS232 or RS485 for external devices.

Over RS485 port is possible to use multi-point connections such MODBUS RTU or DMX512 protocol, for
more details please refer to the specific manual. RS232 port provides point to point connection.

When you use the RS232 or RS485 with other device you must turn on the resistance switch.

4.4 Ethernet
The Ethernet connection provides a full-duplex 10/100Tx connection to the iDom System. With such
connection it is possible to programme and control the whole iDom network.

Over Ethernet it is possible to connect to the KNX Ethernet Device protocol, for more details please refer to
the specific manual.

6 ENERGY MANAGEMENT SOLUTION
With your KNX Server you can easily equip your installation with a cost effective Energy Management
solution you just need to connect current transformers into your KNX Server (maximum 6 current
transformers) and configure your system. KNX Extender is available if you need to add more current
transformers into your system.
External Energy Meters can be connected to KNX Server through MODBUS, please refer to iDom MODBUS
manual for more details.

6.2 Connecting relays.
With KNX Server you can also control circuits remotely you just need to connect relays into your KNX Server
and configure the system. The way how the relay can be connected may vary according the output type.
Pay attention if the ouput is a PWM or analog output. Relays can be connected on either analog outputs or
digital outputs (PWM).

7 EXTEND YOUR SYSTEM
If your systems need s more inputs or outputs connections KNX Extender is the solution. The KNX Server
can be installed as a stand alone or connected to other devices such KNX Extenders using the iDom BUS.

The iDom BUS uses DomaticaCan protocol over CAN BUS and it is possible to connect several iDom
devices into the same network at a speed of up to 1000 Kbit/s.
