Summary Description: The goal of the Immigrant and Refugee Service Corps (IRSC) AmeriCorps program is to mobilize
community support to increase services, build capacity and strengthen the network of service providers who are addressing
the needs of our immigrant and refugee population. IRSC AmeriCorps Members will specifically focus on developing and
disseminating information that will provide immigrant and refugee families with better access to healthcare and wellness
services. Additionally, IRSC will focus on learning from and educating the community about the immigrant and refugee
experience. Collaborating host-site agencies include: Immigrant Welcome Center, Exodus Refugee Resettlement, Catholic
Charities, Butler Universitys Center for Citizenship and Community, Muslim Alliance of Indiana, and Christian
Theological Seminarys Family Counseling Center. IRSC AmeriCorps positions operate from September through August.

Position Responsibilities
Disseminate valuable healthcare information to at least fifty (50) immigrants and/or refugees through
efforts at host site and unique IRSC projects
Build capacity within immigrant and refugee service provider network by establishing at least two (2)
collaborative projects throughout the service year
Increase services to immigrant and refugee families at host-site
Provide at least three (3) opportunities for immigrant and refugee families to share their story with a civic,
faith-based and/or academic institution
Initiate a relationship with newly arrived immigrant and/or refugee family; maintain weekly journal
recording activities, thoughts, and observations.
Attend and participate in two-week initial training & orientation and the bi-weekly Enrichment series
throughout the service year. Goals and objectives include:
1. Officially enroll each IRSC Member in the national AmeriCorps service program
2. Create a comprehensive Service Plan for each Member
3. Share an overview of IRSC program goals and objectives
4. Establish payroll, benefits, and other human resource needs
5. Train IRSC Members on client assessment and case management
6. Familiarize everyone with the mission of IRSC collaborating partner organizations
7. Create esprit de corps and begin sharing talents within the group
8. Coordinate host site specific orientations during the final week of training
Qualifications
1. Candidates must be at least 18 years old and available to serve 1700 hours (approx. 33 hours/week) from
September 2, 2014 Aug. 31, 2015
2. United States Citizen or permanent resident alien
3. Minimum of a High School Degree (or willing to obtain GED during service year)
4. Some college education and ability to speak another language a plus!
5. The desire to learn and work with diverse people, organizations, and communities
