Luke Christopher
Genre
Alternative R&B
What are the conventions of music videos from this genre?
Format:
R&B music videos alwas have a narrative! usuall linked to the lrics of the song"
The shots used usuall consist of the narrative of the song! #ut can also have shots
of the artist singing directl into the camera! this helps the artist connect with the
viewer watching the music video"
$etting:
%hen the music videos are narrative! then the are usuall set in the evenings when it
is darker and everone is going clu##ing and parting" The can also #e set outside
during the da! #ut are almost alwas set in a #ad neigh#ourhood! where the
#uildings are old and covered in graffiti" The social class that the usuall show is
either working class or upper class"
Costumes:
The clothing that is generall used is &eans! a light slim fitting shirt! a snap#ack or
#eanie and some form of e'pensive &eweller whether it is chain necklaces! stud
earrings a watch or a com#ination of the three" %omen in skimp and revealing
clothing that is usuall used in the clu#" The male artists also tend to have their shirts
taken off at some point in the music video"
Actions:
(eople are usuall seen to #e dancing! drinking or chilling with their mates in the
music video" The artist is also usuall seen to #e driving a car in the video! the car
tends to #e a lu'urious sports car"
Lighting:
The lighting of the music video tends to #e dimmed slightl darker than most other
music videos" The music videos are also sometimes in #lack and white! #ut the
lighting has #een edited so that ou are still a#le to clearl see everone"
$hot Tpes:
The shot tpes that are generall used in )ip*)op music videos are wide shots to
shown environment that the artist is in at the moment! such as the location that the
are in as well as the people that are around them" Close ups of the artists face is also
+uite common in these kind of videos"
How are you going to meet these conventions in your video?
Style (in-concert and as live footage; animation (stop motion, digital); interpretative; narrative;
impressionist; surrealist; pastiche; parody; referencing; homage)
I shall use a narrative music video that e3presses and relates to the lyrics of the song. (his
meets the convention of the music video genre that is being used as narrative music videos
are the predominant style of video used for this genre. I shall also have shots of me in a
different location singing into the camera) I ould then have these to different bits of
footage run parallel to each other throughout the hole of the music video.
Costume
The costumes that would be used in the music would be a light slim fitting shirt and jeans.
This would go with the mise-en-scne and conventions of the genre.
Lighting
(he lighting that I am going to use for the music video ill be fairly dimmed and the
colour of the music video ill also have the narrative shots in black and hite) and
the shots here I am singing into the camera at another location ill be in colour.
Locations
(he locations that ill be used in the music video ill be my bedroom in my house)
and outside in my garden.
Shot types
I am going to use ide shots for hen I ant to get the scenery in as ell as the
person. I am going to use close ups of the characters faces and hen focusing on
ob4ects and things that the lyrics mention. I shall also use medium shots so that you
are able to get more of the characters body but still be able to see their facial
e3pression.

example.
Trey Songz Say Ah
Trey Songz Heart Attack

Meaning of the song
Does the song have a meaning? If so, what is it?
The meaning behind the song Bedroom Trip by Luke Christopher is about what love is and
dealing with all of the mess that comes your way until you find the girl that you actually like. It
also talks about the differences between what you want and are looking for, and what the girl
wants and is looking for.
How will your visuals relate to the song? (Illustrate, Amplify or Disjuncture)
My visuals will relate to the song by illustrating the lyrics that are used in it. I shall do this by
using shots that are show or resemble what the lyrics of the song are talking about or
meaning.
