A chi l l y morni ng can consume everyones good mood, so why not avoi d getti ng
chi l l ed and create thi s si mpl e bol ero of some warm and ni ce fabri c such as pol ar
fl eece or some kni tted fabri c. Its real l y real l y easy, and takes about 15-30 mi nutes
to make. Its a l ovel y gi ft for others who gets easi l y col d and enj oys wrappi ng
themsel ves i n comfortabl e garments. Now get your craft on for the next 15-30
mi nutes. ;P
Youl l Need:
Pi ece of fabri c wi dth: 105 cm x l ength: 60 cm. Stretchy. Kni tted or fl eece i s
good. Thi s wi l l go for a good medi um si ze bol ero (Im medi um l arge-i sh)
A pai r of sci ssors
Pi ns
Bi as tape
Sewi ng machi ne
measuri ng tape or a rul er
A bol ero i s a smal l vesty thi ng, that can be real l y ni ce i f i ts a bi t chi l l y. I thi nk i ts
ni ce to have when i ts wi nter especi al l y thi s one, because i ts so si mpl e and
real l y comfortabl e.
I do admi t i t i snt very goth, thi s parti cul ar one ,but i ts because I di dnt have some
bl ack fl eece at the moment, so I j ust went wi th what I had. ;P Hope you dont
mi nd, my dear sti tchl i ngs.
Its made out of a T-shape and i s pretty square to l ook at, when youre not weari ng
i t, but that changes when you put i t on. It wraps neatl y around you and creates a
ni ce l ooki ng col l ar. Thats why I l i ke putti ng on some edgi ng of some sort to gi ve i t
some contrast. :)

As you can see on thi s pi cture, i t al ready seems pretty easy, dont you thi nk?
A square pi ece of fabri c: 105 cm x 60 cm. (If youre a bi t bi gger you can add to
the wi dth, or i f youre smal l er, subtract from the wi dth). Thi s can be anythi ng
stretchy. Kni tted fabri c or fl eece i s good. Ive used fl eece here. Some bi as
bi ndi ng, a tape measure and a pai r of sci ssors.
What you al so need, whi ch you cannot see here i s a sewi ng machi ne and some
pi ns.

Fi rst off, fol d your pi ece, so you have a pi ece that measures 105 cm x 30 cm. From
the si des measure 32 cm and mark i t up (add to thi s number i f youre bi gger and
subtract i f youre smal l er).
Then you cut off a square l i ke thi s: Cut where youve fol ded, unti l you reach your
marki ngs (32 cm), and then you cut al ong your marki ngs here i ts shown wi th pi ns.

You shoul d get a T-shaped pi ece l i ke thi s.

If youve unfol d the fabri c to make sure you had a T, then fol d i t agai n l i ke shown
on the pi cture.

Now fol d i n the arms so they connect wi th the fol ded T-bottom.
Pi n them together as shown.

Now sew where youve pi nned. Use a seam al l owance of 0,5 cm. That shoul d be
enough.
Now your bol ero i s basi cal l y done.
The next thi ng Il l do i s to add bi as tape to the edge. I thi nk i t makes a ni ce detai l .

Take your bi as tape and pi n i t on ri ght si de agai nst ri ght si de. Sew i t on, starti ng 1-2
cm from the end of the bi as tape. Thi s i s to prevent a raw edge when youre done.

Here you can see what I mean. Ive fol ded the end i n, before I sew the other end
on top of the fol ded end. Just sew 1-2 cm on top, and cut the rest of the bi as tape
off.

Heres shown how neatl y your raw edge wi l l be tucked away, when you sew the
other si de.

Fol d your bi as tape onto the back, and sew on top of your seam. Thi s wi l l conceal
you sti tchi ng, and i tl l l ook real l y pretty. :) Just make sure to get the bi as tape on
the backsi de.

And youre done.
If you have a name tag or somethi ng, you can sew i t on now.
You can see the two seams thatl l be the back si des.

I made this in satin, and just made sure it was roomy enough without the
stretch of a knit fabric. I made a facing for the shawl collar, since my fabrics
wrong side was so different from the right side, and sewed it along the collar
edge and into the seams by the armscyes (before adding the bias tape). I t
turned out so well that I might make another one in a different fabric, and
experiment even more. Thanks for the tutorial!

I m glad you like it.
The T-shape comes when you cut 2 squares away in each corner, so to
speak, and they should measure 30 cm x 32 cm.
The way I ve done it, is by folding the fabric in half, lengthwise, and measure
32 cm from the sides toward the middle. Mark it, and then cut off the square.
You can see on the third picture, that there are needles, and the fabric is
folded. Cut where the needles are and in the fold. Just dont cit both layers
of fabric. :)
I hope I explain it okay its a bit hard when you cant show it. :D

the t-shape.

Too bad with the sewing machines then its nice to have projects which
dont need too much sewing, eh? ;)
I ts really nices to know when the tutorials are being tested out in the real

I actually just made this (although I had to hand sew-the curse of having
two broken sewing machines) and I wear it ALL the time! I made it in red and
it was so quick:) Thanx for another great tutorial!

Amazing. Exactly what I am looking for! How would you suggest sizing
this up? Using a shoulder measurement perhaps?

I think I would get someone to measure my back from armpit to
armpit, and that would be the main back center width look at picture
3 & 4 (without the huge main photo ;P) And then I would measure
around the arm and that would become the sleeve width. Does it
make sense? :)
For example, my back width is: 40 cm and my arm circumference is: 33
cm. Then I cut a block that is 40 + 33 + 33 (one back and 2 arms). Then
fold it in half, and cut the squares of (32,5 cm from the side edge due to
seam allowance).
I hope it makes sense. :)
