o remain competitive in the manufacturing industry in
the future as well as the present, it is imperative to have
strong partners partners, who set the right course in
terms of technology. Siemens offers integrated solutions
that perfectly link all stages of the industrial value chain.
With consistent technologies such as Totally Integrated Au-
tomation (TIA) or Integrated Drive Systems (IDS), the work-
ow can be improved, enhancing the productivity and ef-
ciency of the companies served. All of this results in greater
competitiveness.
Highly integrated solutions for more efciency
Be it in the area of automation or drive technology, innova-
tive products are the motor continuously driving the integra-
tion and exibility of solutions for the customers benet.
TIA Portal V13 is the main focus of the presentation at Hanno-
ver Messe. The new version opens up Security Integrated for
Simatic S7-1200 and Safety Integrated for Simatic S7-1500.
Thus, the new fail-safe S7-1518F CPU, the most powerful

VD module for Scalance
Plant owners using Profibus or other
two-wire cabling in their plants and wanting
to switch to Profinet are often faced with
high installation costs. The VD module
offers a new option for migration.
T
he MM992-2VD module is a new dual-port media mod-
ule for all modular switches in the Scalance X-300
product line (XR-300/X308-2M) and the Scalance
S627-2M security module. The two-wire cable is connected
with an RJ45 connector that is plugged into the new two-
wire network module.
Industrial Ethernet communication
using existing cabling
The highlight of the new module? During VD (variable dis-
tance) operation, Industrial Ethernet communication is
made possible via non-Ethernet-specic cabling (Probus DP
or other two-wire cabling) without having to change over to
other transmission methods such as DSL, for example. De-
pending on the quality of the line, distances of up to 500 m
at a rate of 100 Mbps or 1,000 m at a rate of 10 Mbps can be
covered. Furthermore, the VD module allows for an exten-
sion of the standard Industrial Ethernet cable length at
100 Mbps in order to cover even greater distances. This
means that remote users at a distance of more than 100 m
do not necessarily need to be integrated into the plants net-
work using optical bers but can be integrated by simply
using copper cables.
Secure data transmission guaranteed
Security does not suffer, either. It is possible to connect
the VD media module to the most recent modular version
of the Scalance S product line, Scalance S627-2M, thus en-
suring secure communication in two-wire lines as well. With
the rewall and VPN security functions, Scalance S627-2M
can lter data communication and avoid unauthorized
access as well as safely authenticate the transmitted data
and protect from manipulation and espionage using en-
cryption.
Installation cost savings
Using the VD media module reduces costs when installing a
plant, since the already installed copper cables can be used,
thus avoiding high cable-laying expenses. In this case, the
module can be used as a standard Industrial Ethernet or VD
interface. All in all, the new media module offers the possi-
bility to migrate existing Probus systems to Pronet with-
out having to lay new cables!

Simotics motors for
converter operation
The motor plays a crucial role in an
efficient, integrated drive system.
The new Simotics GP and Simotics SD
motors from the VSD10 line have been
optimized for frequency converter
operation with the frequency
converters of the Sinamics series.
Together, they form a perfectly
coordinated drive system.
S
iemens is introducing motors for converter operation
that are based on 1LE1 asynchronous motors. The mo-
tors from the VSD10 line are available with aluminum
housing (Simotics GP) as well as with gray cast-iron housing
(Simotics SD) and feature an output range of between 2.2
and 200 kW. As a key component of Integrated Drive Sys-
tems (IDS), the motors have been optimized for operation
with Sinamics converters. By perfectly coordinating the
components, it is possible to create a cost- effective overall
system that offers exceptionally high reliability and avail-
ability.
Broad range of applications
Using motor converter systems in applications with pumps,
fans, and compressors reduces power consumption by up to
60%. Because the motors have been optimally adapted for
converter operation, it is possible to minimize the motors
power loss and consequently increase efciency. The motors
themselves have special features for example, temperature
sensors and isolated bearings for high shaft heights. These
features contribute to extending the service life and also the
availability of the drive components. With its speed control,
the integrated system displays its advantages, especially
when used in the partial-load operating range. The result is
an accordingly energy-efcient operation.
Easy commissioning
The integrated solution also shows its strengths in com-
missioning. The motor code printed on the nameplate is
entered on the user panel of the Sinamics converter and
delivers preconfigured parameterization settings. This en-
ables quick, error-free commissioning. The drive system
can also be easily and simply integrated into TIA Portal with
Profibus.

High exibility when planning and building a plant
New features
L
iquid-cooled Active Interface Modules (AIMs) and Active
Line Modules (ALMs) are now also available for Sinamics
S120 low-voltage converters. These modules cover a
voltage range between 500 and 690 V, with an output of
1,700 kW. The liquid-cooled solution transfers almost all the
heat of the modules to the cooling liquid. Room air-condition-
ing can therefore be signicantly decreased and the associated
costs of installation, maintenance, and operation reduced.
Because no fans are necessary, the power consumption of the
modules is lower as well.
Sinamics S120 ALMs are available with outputs of 380 kW,
630 kW, and 900 kW at 380480 V and of 1,100 kW at
500690 V. They are able to feed the energy back into the
grid, thus offering signicant cost savings. AIMs for the grid
connection form a functional unit with the ALMs. The AIMs
lter the harmonics to a large degree and ensure that there
is very little circuit feedback. The new modules contain a liq-
uid-cooled throttle, a liquid-cooled lter module, and fasten-
ers. By connecting up to four identical modules in parallel,

Sinamics Perfect Harmony GH150
Even more versatility in
the medium-voltage range
T
he new Sinamics Perfect Harmony GH150 medium-
voltage converter further develops the proven cell-
based Perfect Harmony technology and offers high
availability as well as maximum exibility for easy systems
integration. Thanks to its high versatility, especially with re-
gard to the selection of transformers, customer and appli-
cation requirements can be met even better.
The medium-voltage converter itself can easily be inte-
grated into any application. It is suitable for retrots as well
as for new projects where a separate transformer with high
input voltages and various cooling methods (i.e. oil or dry
transformers) can also be employed. Higher exibility makes
plant planning easier and thereby also reduces the total cost
of ownership as well as the operating costs.
The cell-bypass feature prevents unplanned downtimes
and enables maintenance measures to be carried out at a
scheduled time. The converters almost sinusoidal output
voltage minimizes the stress on the motor and ensures that
the applications can run smoothly and efciently. Therefore,
even applications with long cable lengths between the
motor and the converter can be implemented without out-
put lter.

advance product news 1/2014 | Industrial identification
Simatic Ident (RFID systems in the HF range and
code-reading systems) offers a wide range of
advantages for tool management, from storage to
the machine: fast and reliable identification
eliminates error sources and enables optimal use of
the tool stock.
S
imatic Ident provides for the high-
est level of transparency and en-
ables the tool stock to be utilized
to optimal effect through precise re-
cording of the inventory and localiza-
tion of tools during operation. Tools
with RFID transponders or DMC codes
can clearly be identied by an RFID
reader or code reader when they are re-
moved from their storage location. The
data are then transmitted to the high-
er-level tool management system and
checked back into the store once the
order has been executed. A UHF tran-
sponder on the tool trolley makes it
possible to easily localize the trolley as
it moves through UHF gates between
the storage location and the various
manufacturing areas.
Unique identication marking
During the tool assembly process,
Simatic Ident guarantees the unique
and durable iden tication of the as-
sembled tool. This is done by placing an
RFID transponder in a designated loca-
tion on the tool holder, and identifying
the tool to be mounted via a DMC. The
data are then stored on the tool carri-
ers RFID transponder. The RFID tran-
sponder of the mounted tool is able to
read both unique IDs and plain- lan-
guage text markings.
Simatic Ident is also used during pre-
setting and measuring of the tool,
which checks the various tool parame-
ters, such as radius, length, and so on.
The data are stored directly on the RFID
transponder on the tool.
Rapid tool change
Additionally, Simatic Ident provides for
a correct machining process in the ma-

transmission of the tool data to the CNC
controller. This guarantees rapid, error-
free tool changes. For this, the tool is

Object recognition for
Simatic MV440
W
ith the Pat-Genius object rec ognition license, the
Simatic MV440 devices can not only read 1-D bar
codes and 2-D matrix codes but also verify pre-
denable structures in images. This functionality is also
available without a license in demo mode. Pat-Genius can
be run on all MV440 devices with rmware V6.0 or higher.
It can be used wherever the ambient conditions allow for
the operation of a Simatic MV440 code reader.
In general, object recognition is suitable for applications
such as pick-and-place, quality control in production, posi-
tion recording in supply technology, or volume monitoring
in supply technology and production. In this process, tasks
also include position recognition, presence monitoring,
completeness checks, and text recognition in addition to
object recognition. The dimensional check detects devia-
tions in the current camera frame in relation to the learned
structure based on edge structures.

Simocode pro earth-fault module
The new 3UF7510-1AA00-0 Siemens earth-fault module for
the Simocode pro motor management system monitors earth
faults in conjunction with 3UL23 residual current trans-
formers. This makes it possible to detect errors before the
plant stands still.
E
xternal earth-fault monitoring is
used either in power grids earthed
with high alternating current resis-
tance or wherever it is necessary to
precisely capture data on the earth
fault current, for example for condition
monitoring.
The new 3UF7510-1AA00-0 earth-
fault module, combined with devices
from the Simocode pro V series and
3UL23 residual current transformers,
provides a solution with high measur-
ing accuracy and a large setting range.
In addition to the tripping threshold, a
warning threshold can also be parame-
terized, allowing for early error noti-
cation. The connection to the associ-
ated 3UL23 residual current transfor-
mer is permanently checked for broken
wires and short circuits. This ensures
continuous monitoring, making man-
ual tests redundant. Depending on the
cable diameter used, the residual cur-
rent transformer is available with six
different outlet openings.
The combination of an earth-fault
module and a 3UL23 residual current
transformer enables early detection of
any deterioration of the isolation in
the maintenance station, thus reduc-
ing downtime. Furthermore, this op-
tion provides a solution for all lead-
throughs at a more attractive price
than before.

sing the Siplus CMS2000 condi-
tion monitoring system, mechani-
cal components such as motors,
generators, pumps, and fans can be
monitored and analyzed by collecting
data on vibrations, rotational speed, and
temperature. This makes it possible to
identify defects in machines even before
a malfunction arises, meaning that the
error can be eliminated in a timely man-
ner and maintenance operations can
be planned. Up to 16 standard IEPE vi-
bration sensors can be connected per
CMS2000. In addition to vibrations, it is
also possible to measure temperature,
rotational speed, and analog signals
such as pressure. With the integrated di-

data from the bearing and vibrations
monitor, perform a frequency-selective
analysis of the collected data, or carry
out a trend analysis.
