Calculate the slope of the graph mass of water versus volume of water
(y2-y1)/(x2-x1) = (48.45-8.66)/(50-10)
= 0.9948 g/ml

Compare and discuss the value of the slope with the calculated value for water density.
The value of the slope is more accurate when it is closer to the theoretical value of water
density which is 1 g/ml.

Discussion
Results obtained from this experiment are relatively accurate and precise. Density of a
substance is calculated according to the formula given below :
Density = mass / volume

1. Part A
Measurements of density of water are accurate as they are close to theoretical value of
density of water which is 1g/ml. Precautions were taken to ensure the results are accurate.
For example, the weight of beaker and water is measured by using the same electronic
balance throughout the experiment. The graduated cylinder is placed on a smooth and flat
surface when the measurements are taken.

2. Part B
Water displacement method is used to determine the volume of the solid as this method in
determining the volume of a solid is accurate. In most time, the volume of an irregular solid
is determined by using this method. Many precautions were taken including taking the
readings of the very bottom of the meniscus of the water to avoid parallax error. The
graduated cylinder is placed on a uniform and smooth surface when measurements are
taken.

3. Part C
The density of sodium chloride solution is fairly accurate as density of any sodium chloride
solution is higher than 1g/ml, which is the density of water. Precautions like placing the
graduated cylinder on a flat and uniform surface were taken to ensure the accuracy of the
results. The reading of the measurements is also taken below the meniscus level to avoid
parallax error.

Conclusion
Density of water is 1 g/ml. The density of sodium chloride solution is definitely higher than 1
g/ml, which is the density of water. This is due to the concentration of sodium chloride
solution is higher than the concentration of water.
