Pakistan Fashion Week to promote textiles in UAE: Javed Malik

Pakistan based fashion industries come up with a 3 days of fashion extravaganza in leading direction
of CEO Asian Lifestyle Mr. Mian Shahid Iftikhar along with other 10 top-rated Pakistani designers was
organized and presented an exhibition of Pakistani art of textures in textiles and jewellery in UAE.
Pakistani ambassador Mr. Javed Malik was accompanied by His Highness Sheikh Abdullah Al Sharqi
and other distinguished members of UAE. Ambassador Malik spoke about the initiative and said "it is
for the first time that Pakistan Fashion Week is being organized in Dubai and this creates a
wonderful opportunity not only to highlight the richness of our culture and promote a positive image
of Pakistan, but to also encourage our talented designers to showcase their talent.

producers.
Right now
Chinese
garment
producers are struggling against rising wage pressure and the appreciation of the domestic currency.

But according to the Pakistan central banks latest annual trade and industry report, the local
industry hasnt been able to grab the benefits. Unlike, Bangladesh and Cambodia which are
competitive to
Pakistan have
increased sales
of apparel
whereas
Pakistani
manufacturers
struggle with
energy
shortages. In
Pakistan
power
blackouts last
as long as 20
hours at a
stretch in Faisalabad which is good centre for Textile producers. On other hand shortages of natural
gas, to produce power, can go on for six days at a time created worst situation for Textile
manufacturer.

In city like Faisalabad, half of the citys approximately 0.25 million power looms went out from
business in the last 12 months, where as 10 % of the spinning mill capacity and fabric printing units
remained shut down. According to industry experts in Faisalabad, At least 20 % of workers have lost
their jobs since last year and shipping only half the quantity (1.3 trillion Pakistani Currency) than
earlier from this city.
