Head of Research (Ref: HRE0614)


Salary: Up to 48,000 per annum
Location: Manchester City Centre
Permanent

New Economy are currently recruiting Head of Research to manage the delivery of New Economys economic
research programme, serving the needs of a wide range of internal and external customers. To act as a
thought leader in the development of New Economys economic analysis and drive the greater use of
economic evidence in decision-making by our partners.
Based in Manchester City Centre.

The duties of the job are:

Developing and managing key pieces of New Economy research, with core responsibility for the
economic research work programme
Acting as a thought leader in the development of new analysis techniques and the use of economic
analysis in decision-making
Identifying research opportunities that will contribute to Greater Manchesters strategic ambitions
Identify, securing and delivering fee paying work that contributes to New Economys income
Providing expertise, advice and comment to senior officers and politicians on a wide range of
economic issues and strategies
Managing relationships with stakeholders and customers, initiating and agreeing work, managing
changing needs and expectations, and ensuring delivery to agreed deadlines
Managing and developing the analysts, senior analysts, and principal analysts within the team
Contract managing sub-contractors, ensuring New Economy receives good value for money and a high
quality service from providers
Working with academics, Government officials, think tanks, and local stakeholders to further develop
New Economys understanding of the economic issues affecting Greater Manchester
Communicating research findings to stakeholders and customers in a variety of formats and at a
senior level and ensuring appropriate intelligence is used to inform policy formulation and decision
making

We would like to hear from you if you have/are:

The ability to analyse and draw conclusions from complex data on economic issues and to convey
complex technical processes/conclusions in simple terms
Staff management and development skills
Project management, including managing sub-contractors
Well-developed communication skills, including written, oral and multi-media presentation
Advanced IT skills including research packages (SPSS, MapInfo, Excel etc)
A broad understanding of a range of quantitative and qualitative research techniques, particularly
those related to evaluation and cost benefit analysis
Delivering training to internal and external customers.
