My Reflection Letter

In my enc1102 class I learn more about writing and reading more than any other writing I have
ever been too. I can now read a difficult story and use the technic that I learn in class to
understand it very well. I can figure out the I say and the they say in a long story. Usually I
never like classes in which I have to read and write a lot but my ENC1102 class is way different.
I really try my best in the class to improve my writing skills. At first I never understood what we
talk about in class because I never read the stories that I had to read at home. When I started
reading them the class started to make sense to me. I keep on doing what I have to do at home so
I can understand the class even better.
I force myself to learn a lot in class and when I get home I work even harder because the class
was so hard for me. That is the only class that I feel like I work 2 times harder for this class.
Specifically, when I was trying to make myself understand the rhetorical situation between
Dolmage, Vatz and Bitzer and the I say they say. I can prove that I learn how to understand
rhetorical situation in Dolmages view. For example, this is about the steeps steps in the
Dolmage story, I can say that the they say is only the truly fit survive is a capitalist idea of
competition and the I say is Universal Design is a neo-liberal system which is a strategy to
prevent social conflict, like competition, because Universal Design values free choice and
flexibility, centralizes disabilities, and masks inequalities. I knew Dolmage was talking about
the they say because he said Historically, steps were also closely associated, eugenically, with
cognitive levels and forms of work. Thus these steps also classed citizens and linked their value
to labor-output. And I figure out the I say because he said I am not going to let Universal
design off easily here. He continues by saying that neoliberalism takes the values of free choice,
flexibility, deregulation and translate them into market reforms to maximize profits, privatize
industry, and exploit all available resources.
Another thing that I learned is how to read and synthesizing difficult texts. For this technic, I
took a lot of notes in class and listen to my teacher carefully in class to figure out how to learn it.
It wasnt easy. I had to do a lot of extra work at home. I read difficult stories at home to really
figure how to synthesize a difficult text. I read How to tame a wild tongue by Anzaldua and
synthesized it. For example, the essay focuses on how they want her to lose her accent in other to
fit in the American culture and also they have a problem with her Chicano Spanish. They want
her to speak good Spanish instead of the Chicano language she is speaking, which they call poor
Spanish. The author stood up for her language by saying so, if you want to really hurt me, talk
badly about my language. Ethnic identity is twin skin to linguistic identity. She added I am my
language. The author want everyone who is talking bad about her language to know that she
will no longer be afraid, she will speak up, and she will overcome the tradition of silence.
I have learned a lot in this class. I can write a good summary in a very short time because of this
class. I learned a lot about other things like navigating database, writing in academic contexts,
etc. I have learned a lot of information that I will use to move forward. I have worked really hard
in this class, specifically in the readings because they are not easy to read and understand and
English is like a third language for me which makes the readings even harder for me. Overall, I
think I deserve the grade that Professor Gabriella Rios will decide to give me. Thank you for the
semester. I learned more than I was expected. I would definitely recommend your class to other
students who want to learn.
