PRESS RELEASE


Albany County Sheriff Craig D. Apple, Sr. reports the arrests of a Cohoes man on weapons and
drug charges.

On June 16, 2014, Investigators assigned to the Albany County Sheriffs Criminal Investigation
Unit arrested Nicholas M. Straker (29) of 17 Olmstead Street, Cohoes NY and charged him with the
following; Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 3
rd
Degree B Felony, Criminal
Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 5
th
Degree D Felony, Criminal Possession of Stolen
Property in the 4
th
Degree E Felony, Criminal Possession of Firearm E Felony, Criminal Use of
Drug Paraphernalia in the 2
nd
Degree A Misdemeanor and Criminal Possession of a Controlled
Substance in the 7
th
degree A Misdemeanor.

The investigation began approximately 4 months ago when Sheriff Investigators received
information that Straker and his roommate, Christopher Grant (23), were selling drugs out of their
Cohoes apartment. During the course of the investigation it was learned that the pair was also in
possession of illegal handguns.

Investigators located and apprehended Mr. Straker and a search warrant was executed on the
duos apartment where two illegal handguns were found, one of which had been reported stolen in
February of this year to the New York State Police in Greenwich. Also recovered was a quantity of
MDMA, Cocaine and Heroin.

Mr. Straker was arraigned in the City of Cohoes Court and ordered held at the Albany County
Correctional Facility in lieu of $20,000.00 bail. Christopher Grant remains at large and is wanted for
charges stemming from this incident and the sheriffs office is seeking help from the public in locating
him. It is believed that he has family in New York City, Florida and Virginia. If you have information
