Ms all del casi obligado plural con que debemos referirnos a la institucin familiar, es cierto que las definiciones de familia por ms variadas que sean descansan hoy en la relacin interindividual, dando la idea de que la familia es ante todo un proyecto relacional que no hace referencia necesariamente a lazos de sangre. Precisamente Schaffer !""# en $sabel Sol% i &allart, !""'( se)ala que la naturaleza de las relaciones interpersonales son el factor clave del desarrollo del ni)o en la familia, ms incluso que la propia estructura familiar. *sto es precisamente lo que queremos rescatar en nuestra intervencin+ la naturaleza de la relacin interpersonal como factor clave del desarrollo del ni)o en la familia. ,a familia sigue siendo, a pesar de los ataques y dudas que se ciernen sobre ella, el nudo esencial de la constitucin de la personalidad de los ni)os. Prcticamente todas las definiciones, ms all desde donde se posicionen para estudiar a la familia, hacen referencia a los factores comunes+ habitacin com-n, descendencia com-n, mismo techo, mismo apellido, mismos padres, mismo grupo, misma historia. Podr.amos decir que dos aspectos fundamentales marcan a la familia de hoy+ es el ni)o que la define, ya sea por su ausencia o por su presencia. Por otro lado, la historia de las personas dentro de las familias no es tan lineal como anta)o+ el ciclo de vida familiar no es tan previsible, y una misma persona puede pasar por muy diferentes etapas de su vida en cuanto a la familia+ celibato, pare/a, familia monoparental, familia compuesta, etc.. Por otro lado, la familia se ve amenazada en lo que tiene de ms fundamental+ dar a sus miembros la identidad de base suficientemente reaseguradora para afrontar los acontecimientos de la vida. ,a familia antes tomaba a cargo dimensiones muy particulares de la e0periencia humana+ tiempo de vida, de aprendiza/e, de educacin, de reproduccin y ahora est cediendo algunas de estas funciones a otras instituciones. 1e todos modos, y con variantes respecto a etapas anteriores, la familia es claramente el primer conte0to de aprendiza/e para las personas, en este sentido, es importante aclarar que en su seno aprenden no slo los ni)os sino tambi%n los adultos. *n la familia se ofrece cuidado y proteccin a los ni)os, asegurando su subsistencia en condiciones dignas. 2ambi%n ella contribuye a la socializacin de los hi/os en relacin a los valores socialmente aceptados. ,as familias acompa)an la evolucin de los ni)os, en el proceso de escolarizacin, que es la v.a e0celente para ir penetrando en otros mbitos sociales diferentes a la familia. *sta, a trav%s de estas funciones apunta a educar a los ni)os para que puedan ser autnomos, emocionalmente equilibrados, capaces de establecer v.nculos afectivos satisfactorios. *n esta intervencin haremos e0presa referencia a la que anotamos como segunda funcin bsica de la familia, esto es, la funcin socializadora, que conecta al ni)o con los valores socialmente aceptados. ,a enculturacin como as. ha dado en llamarse consiste en la transmisin de representaciones y valores colectivos, indispensables para el desarrollo y la adaptacin de los ni)os. Partimos de que los valores, las reglas, los ritos familiares estn al servicio de la estabilidad familiar, funcionan como sello de identidad para las distintas familias, estn al servicio del sentido de pertenencia. Por otro lado, e0isten fuerzas internas y e0ternas, como el proceso evolutivo de los miembros de una familia, los conflictos, las crisis que funcionan como agentes de cambio. 1el equilibrio entre ambas fuerzas resultar el sano crecimiento de la familia. 1esde una perspectiva evolutivo3educativa, podemos decir que la familia supone+ un proyecto vital de e0istencia en com-n con un proyecto educativo compartido, donde hay un fuerte compromiso emocional, un conte0to de desarrollo tanto para los hi/os como para los padres y abuelos, un escenario de encuentro intergeneracional, una red de apoyo para las transiciones y las crisis. 1esde esta perspectiva, la familia aparece como el me/or conte0to para acompa)ar a la persona para transitar los cambios que implica necesariamente la vida. *n cuanto al proyecto educativo familiar es en general de orden impl.cito, se trata de un contrato familiar donde se 4inscribe4 la forma en que se organizan las familias, como se dividen las tareas, qu% e0pectativas se tienen de los miembros de la familia. ,os valores, actitudes y e0pectativas que de esta forma se transmiten constituyen lo que algunos autores 5remin, !"678 9loom, !"'!( han llamado 4curr.culum del hogar4. *ste curr.culum del hogar no est escrito 3a diferencia del escolar3 pero cuenta con ob/etivos, contenidos, 4metodolog.as4 que determinan la se)a de identidad de cada familia, y contribuyen a generar aprendiza/es en sus miembros . ,as familias se diferencian entonces no slo por los contenidos sino tambi%n en los estilos con que transmiten estos contenidos Mart.nez, !""7(. *l tema de los estilos educativos adquiere entonces importancia fundamental a la hora de educar en valores. *n ese sentido se distinguen varios estilos educativos 9aumrind, !"6! y Maccoby y Mart.n, !"': en 5oloma, !"":(, que vienen determinados por la presencia o ausencia de dos variables fundamentales a la hora de estudiar la relacin padres3hi/os+ el monto de afecto o disponibilidad paterna a la respuesta y el control o e0igencia paterna que se pone en la relacin padres3hi/os. 1e la atencin de estas dos variables surgen cuatro tipos de padres+ ;utoritativo rec.proco, en los cuales estas dos dimensiones estn equilibradas+ se e/erce un control consistente y razonado a la vez que se parte de la aceptacin de los derechos y deberes de los hi/os, y se pide de estos la aceptacin de los derechos y deberes de los padres. ;utoritario3represivo, en este caso si bien el control e0istente es tan fuerte como en el caso anterior, al no estar acompa)ado de reciprocidad, se vuelve r.gido, no de/ando espacio para el e/ercicio de la libertad de parte del hi/o. Permisivo3indulgente, en este caso no e0iste control de parte de los padres, que no son directivos, no establecen normas. 1e todos modos, estos padres estn muy implicados afectivamente con sus hi/os, estn atentos a las necesidades de sus hi/os. Permisivo3negligente, en este caso, la permisividad no est acompa)ada de implicacin afectiva, y se parece mucho al abandono. La educacin de los valores en la familia Partimos de que los valores son elementos muy centrales en el sistema de creencias de las personas y estn relacionados con estados ideales de vida que responden a nuestras necesidades como seres humanos, proporcionndonos criterios para evaluar a los otros, a los acontecimientos tanto como a nosotros mismos <o=each, !"6: en &arc.a, <am.rez y ,ima , !""'( . *s as. que los valores nos orientan en la vida, nos hacen comprender y estimar a los dems, pero tambi%n se relacionan con imagen que vamos construyendo de nosotros mismos y se relacionan con el sentimiento sobre nuestra competencia social. Seg-n otros autores Sch>artz, !""#( los valores son representaciones cognitivas inherentes a tres formas de e0igencia universal+ las e0igencias del organismo, las reglas sociales de interaccin y las necesidades socio3institucionales que aseguran el bienestar y el mantenimiento del grupo. 1e esa manera, seg-n Sch>artz los sistemas de valores se organizan alrededor de tres dimensiones fundamentales+ el tipo de ob/etivo trascendencia o beneficio personal8 conservacin o cambio(, los intereses subyacentes individuales o colectivos(, el dominio de la motivacin tradicin, estimulacin, seguridad(. ,as teor.as impl.citas que todos los padres tienen y que se relacionan con lo que los mismos piensan sobre cmo se hacen las cosas y por qu% se hacen de tal o cual manera ofician 4de filtro4 en la educacin en valores. *stas ideas y teor.as impl.citas se montan sobre e0periencias, sobre lo que se ha vivencia do. Si bien se podr.a decir que la familia no es el -nico conte0to donde se educa en valores, es una realidad que el ambiente de pro0imidad e intimidad que en ella se da la hace especialmente eficaz en esta tarea. *0iste en la literatura una e0tensa discusin sobre cmo se educa en valores+ ?los peque)os interiorizan los valores familiares@ ?o los ni)os son agentes activos en el proceso de construccin de valores, en el entendido que la relacin padres3hi/os es una relacin transaccional, esto es de ida y vuelta@ Aosotros estamos con la segunda posicin, afilindonos as. a las nuevas perspectivas constructivas. *n ellas se concibe a la relacin entre adultos y ni)os de doble sentido, aunque se acepte que esta relacin es asim%trica. *sto significa que no slo cambian y se influencian los valores de los ni)os, sino tambi%n los de los adultos, por e/emplo, luego de tener hi/os una persona puede privilegiar ms el valor de la seguridad que el de reconocimiento social. 2<;1B55$CA Family and Values Education 2al=ing about family today leads us to spea= of diversity. 9eyond the almost obligatory plural that >e must refer the family institution, it is true that the definitions of family are more varied than in the rest today interindividual relationship, giving the idea that the family is primarily a relational pro/ect does not necessarily refer to blood ties.
