ACCOMPLISHMENTS
• Lead device evaluation and component fabrication efforts during the development and
demonstration of the first multivariate optical computing device. This novel approach to
predictive spectroscopy, which greatly simplifies traditional
1-D spectroscopy and spectral imaging, was featured on the cover of Analytical Chemistry in
March of 2001.
• Developed thin-film coating design software (using MATLAB) tailored towards the
fabrication of interference filters that are crucial to the implementation of multivariate
optical computing technology.
• Developed LabVIEW-based process control/optimization software for thin-film coating
fabrication system.
• Summarized findings in conference proceedings, peer-reviewed journal articles and oral
presentations.

Develop and deploy data analysis algorithms for a NIR tunable diode laser spectroscopic
sensor that is used for monitoring atmospheric gases in harsh environments such as coal-
fired power plants. Provide spectroscopic and software support for in-house high-
temperature laboratory and field installation team.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS
• Developed a robust algorithm for measuring temperature and water vapor in coal-
boilers that has since been successfully deployed in several US and international
power plants.
• Developed outlier detection method for monitoring real-time spectroscopic
measurements
• Developed LabVIEW-based software framework for characterizing analyzing
atmospheric emissions like H2O vapor, CO2, CO and O2 from gas-phase spectroscopic
measurements
• Determined critical physical constants for near-infrared water spectra at ultra-high
pressures (>5atm) that enable the real-time measurement of temperature in high
performance jet engines (in situ).
