ACCOMPLISHMENTS
• Developed the use of Trichloromethane as a standard for wavelength calibration and
photometric accuracy in near infrared scanning spectrometers.
• Designed and built graphical user interface for a laboratory assembled near infrared
scanning spectrometer.
• Wrote a suite of software programs in LabVIEW for the multivariate analysis of spectral
data, which demonstrated the feasibility of data acquisition coupled with real-time
chemometric analysis of spectral data in a virtual instrument environment.
• Developed analytical method for the determination of pungency in chili peppers via near
infrared spectroscopy
• Summarized findings in peer-reviewed journal articles and oral presentations.
Industrial Experience
DUTIES
Develop and deploy data analysis algorithms for a NIR tunable diode laser spectroscopic
sensor that is used for monitoring atmospheric gases in harsh environments such as coal-
fired power plants. Provide spectroscopic and software support for in-house high-
temperature laboratory and field installation team.
ACCOMPLISHMENTS
• Developed a robust algorithm for measuring temperature and water vapor in coal-
boilers that has since been successfully deployed in several US and international
power plants.
• Developed outlier detection method for monitoring real-time spectroscopic
measurements
• Developed LabVIEW-based software framework for characterizing analyzing
atmospheric emissions like H2O vapor, CO2, CO and O2 from gas-phase spectroscopic
measurements
• Determined critical physical constants for near-infrared water spectra at ultra-high
pressures (>5atm) that enable the real-time measurement of temperature in high
performance jet engines (in situ).
DUTIES
Medical device (glucose monitoring) research and development. Technology evaluation
ACCOMPLISHMENTS
• Used data mining tools to perform extensive analyses of tissue optical measurements from
several prototypes of a novel non-invasive glucose measurement device developed by a
third-party R&D company.
