largest state university in Indonesia. It was founded on December 19, 1949 and currently is number one university in Indonesia which h a s 1 8 f a c u l e s , 6 9 undergraduate programs, 24 diploma programs, and a Graduate School. Since December 2000, the university has taken a new status as a state-owned legal enty. UGM is implemenng as educopolis area, a step taken by universies in creang conducive environment for the connuity of the learning process. These eorts are pursued in the context of developing muldisciplinary collaboraons and responding to ecological issues in order to achieve the vision of the university. The Special Region of Yogyakarta (known as Daerah Ismewa Yogyakarta) is one of the smallest provinces in the country which has been widely known as the center of Javanese culture as well as the center of learning. It has 3,200,000 inhabitants, 510,000 of whom reside in the city of Yogyakarta. The Special Region of Yogyakarta focuses its development on three inseparable pillars: educaon, culture, and tourism. It has unique landscape which has dierent characterisc of landscape. Mount Merapi is one of acve volcano mount in the world. Urban planning system in Yogyakarta has its own uniqueness than any other provinces in Indonesia. Karst area in Gunung Kidul is one of unique topography in Yogyakarta that was success in crical land rehabilitaon. Yogyakarta has also beauful coastal sandy area which shows not only the beauful scenery of the beach but also the windbreak establishment as technology to create unproducve sandy area into producve one to farming producvity. 1) Program period: Oct 20 - Nov 3, 2013 2) Eligible students:graduates and undergraduates Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) presents the rst Eco-Tropical Summer Program 2013 as its commitment to the global challenge on educaon and environment, inving foreign students from all of the partner universies around the globe. This program is to provide overseas college students a plaorm to learn and experience the unique landscape of Yogyakarta as well as culture. Two-week intensive program oers class room lectures to enrich and site visit lectures to deepen the knowledge and understanding of dierent ecosystem types in Yogyakarta. It concludes Volcano ecosystem in Mount Merapi that erupts in the period of 3 5 years creang its own dynamic ecosystem, Urban ecosystem through its unique urban planning system, Wanagama with its monumental crical land rehabilitaon and the ecologically unique of karst area, and the success of coastal sandy area conservaon through windbreak establishment in resulng the farming producvity and mangrove ecosystem.
