Introduction

This report aims at giving a comprehensive description of the first


practicum for this training year which subscribes to the paradigm practice
theory practice in which the practicum play a central role. The practicum
enables trainee teachers to be introduced to the real context of teaching in
the classroom.
This paper aims at summarising and reporting what was observed during
some elt classes at Alkoutoubia secondary school located in Bab Doukala
This observation was conducted as a major requirement of the training
programme at the cremf Marrakech
the purpose of this report
To familiarize trainee teachers with the school environment, different
school communities, teaching divisions, and students experiences
To understand the responsibilities and rules of the teacher
To describe the instructional practices observed in the elt classes so that we
can be able to relate the observed practices to what we have learned in the
centre.The date presented in this report are not evaluative
The importance and the meaning of the observed of the data would be
determined by the pupils who would decide wether the data are consistent
with the intended expectations

Descriptive card on the school

1. Historical background
Our first practicum took place in Elkoutoubiya high school which
is located in Bab Doukala , few minutes far from the bus station . the
school was established in 1947. It was called first La poterne by the
French protectorate, which means the gate of the wall , then it became
a girls middle school . In 1973 the school received the first troop of
high school girls, branch of literature. Later on, in 1996 boys were
integrated into the school.

Ethnographic observation
Classroom environment
The observation took place in room number16. It is a vast downstairs room
with orderly table rows and adequate lighting. The room also has windows
in both sides, and green painted walls, desk and blackboard. It is also
undecorated.
Sessions description
In the first day of the practicum, the host teacher Mrs. BOLHY Rkia who is in
charge of 1
st
and 2
nd
year baccalaureate, has introduced three kinds of
skills: communication
reading
grammar
the teacher initiates the session by a 5 minutes warm up. The warm up
would always be one or two practice questions occasionally related to the
current lesson in the communication session the host teacher asked the
students about their holiday
after the warm up the teacher starts the presentation eliciting ideas and
asking questions about a particular picture in the textbook. In the reading
comprehension session , the teacher gave students some time to read . after
reading the text , silently ,o
