Etat de l'Armée Piemontaise

Sous le règne de Charles Emmanuel III

1730-1773
Giovanni Cerino-Badone

During the Kingdom of Charles Emmanuel III two wars are fought: the War for the Succession of
Poland and the War of the Austrian Succession. Expecially the second one, these are a particollary
hard test for the new sabaudian Royal Army. In both case the Army win the effort and the king
gains new territory in Italy from the Duchy of Milan.

This is the order of battle of an army able to suffer humiliating routes - such as the one at the
Battle of Bassignana (27/9/1745), to endure epic bloody defences - as the combat around Mount
Cavallo during the Battle of Pietralunga (19/7/1744) -, and to gain sounding victories against
overhelming enemy forces. The Battle of Assietta (19/7/1747) is the the most famous of these
glourious days.

Without indications the Regiments were raised before 1730. On the contrary the year during
which the unity is raised is present. The Swiss regiments changed their names at the death or
withdrawal of their colonels. I wrote the names and the years of these changes.
