Facilitation Plan IT SEEMED LIKE A GOOD TIME AT THE TIME

Ice Breaker 5 mins


The facilitators will break the class into 2 teams and play Be Positive.

Introduction to the case study 5 mins
Jacquie, the CEO of Templeton hardware had relocated all Lodestone Landscapes franchises
under the same company as its hardware stores and re-branded them as Templeton
Landscape Solutions. Likewise, the acquire manufacturer, The Great Outdoors has renamed
to Templeton Caravans. The new merged companies were not acceptable to the loyal
customers and the sales decrease. Jacquie is disappointed with the outcome and the board
was unhappy. The facilitators are helping Jacquie to resolve the issue.

Current and Desired State 5 mins
The facilitators will use the Organization Design (OD) Model to help the employees to
identify the Current State and the Desired State before using Force Field analysis to zoom
into a more detailed analysis. There is 2 different design in OD model, which is the
mechanistic design and organic design. From the OD model, the facilitator will tell the class
the Current State, which is heavily mechanistic in nature and this is responsible for the
decline in sales. The Desired state is to make the organisation more organic.

Class Discussion 1 Diagnose Force Field Analysis 10 mins
The facilitators will involve the class to work on the force field analysis diagram. The class
will present the results and finally the facilitators will present the ideal result. The result of
the analysis will be restraining forces are either just as large as or larger than the driving
forces. As such there is a need to work on weakening the restraining forces.

Root cause and symptoms 5 mins
The root cause of the case is cultural conflict and the symptoms of the root cause are
communicate problem between employees, management and customer, different
perceptions and ideas between employees and management, no shared understand among
all employees and management, different approaches to handle customers and there is no
trust between employees and management.

Class Discussion 2 Concept Fan 10 mins
The facilitators will engage the class to make use of the concept fan to find possible
solutions to solve the case problems.

Recommendation 5 mins
The facilitators will use Kurt Lewins change model in this portion. Firstly, unfreezing, Jacquie
has to unfreeze which is to get rid of the bad behaviours of the employees. Next is the
moving stage which is to make changes. Lastly is the refreezing stage, Jacquie has to
stabilize the changes. Ideas will be elaborate during the facilitation.

Conclusion 5 mins
Lastly is the closing session of the facilitation follow by Question and Answer session.
